Ways to Improve and Make Money from Your Newsletter

Our last three newsletters have covered the hot topic of email newsletters and their importance: Keeping Your Customers Informed, How to Build Your Subscriber List, and How To Write Your Newsletter. If you're new to our newsletter or have missed out on any of these editions, to view the complete series see the link at the end of this article. So having accepted the importance of producing an email newsletter, you've begun to establish your subscriber list and have started writing, or gathering content for it, how are you going to improve and make money from your publication? This month we are going to tackle Ways to Improve and Make Money from your Newsletter.Getting Your Newsletter DeliveredThe first issue is to make sure that your subscribers are opening your newsletters. It may sound obvious, they've subscribed to receive this free but valuable information of course they'll open and read it, right? Wrong! There's a whole host of delivery issues that can stop them. This can be a particular problem if you are using an html template style email as opposed to a plain text version. You may need to educate your readers about the need to add trusted senders to their address books as it is a fact that many email programmes and email address providers wont display the html content of emails sent by sources not in the recipients address book. Some won't even include the html by default even if you are in their address book! Unless your subscribers have added you to their address book, there's a good chance they won't see your HTML graphics and if your important text is contained within a graphic, they may therefore not see any part of it.So what should you do?Well, you have a few options:

Yes, because ?a)	my business coach says I need one.b)	most speakers have one.c)	I believe it would be a perfect component for my communication strategy and action plan for building platform.

Fishing For Ezine Subscribers

The Bible tells the tale of the fishermen who were just not catching a thing. Jesus came along and told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat, which they did. Surprise! They caught so many fish their nets began to tear.Jesus had a strategy. He thought outside the box. And he knew where to go. Of course, when you're God, you tend to know a lot of things. What about fishing for ezine subscribers? Don't expect Jesus to tell you where to cast your subscription net. You will have to build some other strategy. In the meantime, here are the six steps I sued to grow my free online Happy Class ( http://thehappyguy.com/self-actualization-happy-class.html ) list by 27 last night, and my Daily Dose of Happiness (http://thehappyguy.com/daily-happiness-free-ezine.html) by 10.Step # 1: Sign up for Subscription Rocket ( http://thehappyguy.com/SR.html ) and install the code on every page of your web site. SR is a small pop-under offering your visitors free subscriptions to newsletters. Unlike some pop-ups, this pop-under is unobtrusive and nobody has ever complained. Every time the screen pops under your site, your ezine pops under four other similar sites. Most of my ezine subscribers had never even heard of me or visited my site before they signed up.Step # 2: Get lots of traffic to your site. The Internet traffic gurus will tell you to attract only TARGETED traffic. But, with SR, any traffic will do. 1000 non-targeted visitors might be useless to you, but they will trigger 4000 appearances of your ezine notice to targeted visitors of other sites. Get the most targeted traffic possible, yes, but whatever you do, get traffic. More on this later.Step # 3: Get sub-affiliates, and get lots of them. Every time web sites you referred get visitors to their sites, you earn three credits. So 1000 visitors to www.Looky-who-I-referred.com means YOUR ezine gets seen by 3000 targeted visitors at other sites.Step # 4: Replace some of the SR codes with Subscriber Drive codes. What's the difference? Not much. They are almost identical. You can see how SD works at www.TheHappyGuy.com/self-actualization-articles.html . Why use both? Two reasons.First, you don't want to run out of targeted subscribers. For instance, if you run an Internet marketing newsletter, you don't want one service to run out of similar sites on which to display your ezine and start showing it to visitors of vampire-slaying sites.Second, if you can get multiple credits for each visitor to your site ... if you stagger the two services along the well-worn surfing routes. I have SR code on my home page, and SD code on my Self-actualization Resource Center, where the largest number of home page visitors tend to gravitate.Let's start thinking way outside the box.5. How do you get big traffic to your site? Suppose, for instance, your ezine and web site are about Internet marketing, competing with 4.5 million savvy entries on Google. Slim chance getting a top ten ranking, or even a top 100 ranking.Consider your hobbies. Suppose you like horseback riding. Why not have a page on horseback riding, optimized for a couple juicy equestrian keywords, where you compete with just 700,000 not so savvy web sites? What does horseback riding have to do with Internet marketing? Everything, if it is about the publisher (you!). You might also post a page on Italian cuisine, where your keyword optimization competes with only 200,000 other Google entries. These could both be under "About the publisher".In addition to the untargeted traffic who will bring you targeted subscribers from other sites by tripping the SR and SD codes, your visitors will get to know you better as a human being, a key factor in building trust with them. You can also add affiliate links for related products (want to sell a horse?) and actually make some money from these extra pages. (If you like happiness, why not use one of my happiness articles and sell my two happiness ebooks through affiliate links from http://thehappyguy.com/earn-money.html?)6. Another way to boost traffic to your site is to keep sending your subscribers to your site. If there is a free ebook download (or software or puzzle or graphic or recipe) or a contest to enter, you can have subscribers visiting your web site each week. I set up a Daily Fun page http://thehappyguy.com/l/daily-happiness-fun-page.php for subscribers to Your Daily Dose of Happiness. Every time one of them visits, she earns me four views of my ezine notice to targeted traffic on other web sites. This page is getting an average of 100 hits a day, and that will increase as my ezine readership grows.Jesus could help you catch way more subscribers than I can. But until he offers some alternatives, these are the steps you can take to turbo boost your subscriber catch.About The AuthorDavid Leonhardt publishes Your Daily Dose of Happiness http://thehappyguy.com/daily-happiness-free-ezine.html.

Uncover 8 Secrets To Gaining More Ezine Subscribers Now!

If you've just started publishing your own ezine then you'll soon discover that getting visitors to subscribe to your ezine is not as easy as you might think. If you already publish your own ezine, it is likely you have already discovered this. Besides getting more traffic to your site, here are 8 tips that have been proven to boost ezine subscriber rates.-- Give a free bonus away to anyone who subscribes to your ezine. This will give your visitors an initial reason to subscribe. With the amount of spam going around the internet today, people are becoming less forthcoming about giving their email address away and so make sure your bonus is a worthwhile one. I recommend using an ebook because they cost nothing to produce and are very easy to distribute.-- Promote your ezine in a signature file at the end of every email you send. If you wish to be a successful webmaster, you should be sending at least 10 emails a day and so a large number of people who will be interested in what your ezine has to offer will see. Try to keep your e-signature short and sharp; giving information about how your ezine benefits its readers.-- Submit your ezine to ezine directories. Ezine directories are free to submit to and attract people who are looking to sign up to ezines on a subject that interests them. When submitting your ezine, bear in mind that a lot of ezine directories list their ezines in alphabetical order so try to make the first letter of your ezine's name begin with a letter at the lower end of the alphabet. This way your ezine will be the first people see.-- Have a good subscription request to your ezine on every page of your website. This way, visitors are looking at your offer the whole time and if it looks appealing then they will subscribe. It also ensures that no matter which page of your site a visitor enters, they will always have the chance to see that you have an ezine.-- Swap ads with other ezine publishers. Swap ads with ezines of the same subject as yours so you can guarantee that those who view your ezine offer will be interested. This method is completely free too. Don't be afraid to ask other ezine publishers to swap ads because they will have very little to lose and everything to gain and so they are very likely to agree.-- Write articles relevant to the subject of your ezine. In the resource box of your article, promote your ezine. If your article is well written then readers will look for more of your quality content and are likely to subscribe to your ezine. This is another great way to promote your ezine because you know that those looking at your ezine offer will be interested.-- Make sample issues of your ezine available on your website or by autoresponder. Visitors won't enter their email address unless they know exactly what they are signing up for. Your sample issues should be short and sharp, giving readers a taster of the top quality content that can be found in your ezine. You could also make previous issues of your ezine available.-- Publish testimonials about your ezine. Visitors are unlikely to believe everything you say about the quality of your ezine but if you have good testimonials then this will lead visitors to trust you and sign up to your ezine. Do not be afraid to ask your current subscribers for testimonials. People will help you and will probably feel honoured that you consider their opinion. For more information on this subject or about making money online go to http://www.info-ebooks.co.uk100s of free ebooks and software products are also available at this address.Thank you for readingWilliam Johnston

Surefire Ways to Pack a Punch With Your Ezines & Newsletters

Newsletters, or ezines, can be an extremely effective marketing tool for your business. It puts your name in front of your potential clients, regular clients, and peers while showing your expertise and professionalism. It's an excellent means to both market and grow your business and also show your existing clients your creative abilities. What's an ezine? It's short for electronic magazine. It's those e-mail newsletters that you receive on a regular basis. If you are not sending one out now, seriously consider doing so. It can make a big difference in both your business and your bank account. For example, I know one life coach who sends out regular ezines. Lately she acknowledged that she started getting 30+ people signing up every day! When you think about those 30+ new potential clients a day, doesn't it make sense to utilize this as a regular part of your marketing? Now the only drawback is to ensure your newsletter is worthy of being read. I subscribe to a lot of newsletters, but find I regularly only read a few upon their arrival. When I decided to create my own newsletter, one of the first things I did was to look at those newsletters I regularly read and determine what it was about them that made me want to read them. What sets them apart from the rest? One of the most important things I discovered was that they provided me with valuable information to help me in my business. They often provided information I didn't already know. For example, some newsletters provide tips on search engine optimization, affiliate programs, or software shortcuts. Since I'm always looking to grow my business, this information is valuable to me. You normally have knowledge in a given field that others don't, when preparing your newsletter, think about what expert knowledge you have or can obtain that would interest your targeted market. Now that's what you want to add to your newsletter. In writing your newsletter, keep the following points in mind:Your Readers?Know your readers and what they want.?Ask your readers for feedback and how to improve.?Talk to your readers. Don't just put information in your newsletter; think about that audience out there reading your newsletter. How do they feel after reading what you've prepared?Your Writing Style?Use short, simple sentences; keeping paragraphs short.?Write clearly and avoid slang or profanity.?Use humor and keep a refreshing tone to your writing.?Keep your tone friendly, but also professional.?Have white space between the paragraphs.?Use small graphics whenever applicable.?Include your logo for business recognition.?Use bold or italics for emphasis, but don't underline.?Use plain text. (12-14 point)Headings?Entice the reader with your heading to ensure they read the article.?Headlines should be slightly larger than the other text.?Use bold or italics and a good font, but don't use all caps.Content of Newsletter?Content is king! Just like on your website, it's vital to have your newsletter or ezine packed full of useful information.?Provide articles written by you and other experts.?Provide any new services or features you've added to your business.?Provide links of relevant press releases, articles, other sites, etc. This gives readers more information that they can review.?Provide case studies, facts not known, etc. Sign up for Google News so that you can get information your clients might not have seen.?Provide a collection of valuable small business tips, testimonials, etc.?Provide a personal message from you. Many enjoy hearing how you are doing and what's new happening in their life and business.?Provide humorous quotations or jokes.?Contests / Polls / Freebies / Quizzes / Games!! Let the fun begin. Why not include something that makes the reader look forward to taking a break from their busy day to read your newsletter? The Final Step -- Proofing?Make sure everything is 100% accurate with no typos.?Make sure you have permission for any copyrighted material.?Make sure if you have sources, you have credited them correctly. Most ezines are "opt-in," which means that everyone who receives it has actually registered to receive it-they want it already. Now the only thing you need to do is provide them great information that keeps them wanting it every month.Diana Ennen, Author: Virtual Assistant the Series, Become a Highly Successful, Sought After VA, Words From Home: Start, Run and Profit from a Home-Based Word Processing Business, and the Home Office Recovery Plan (co-author: Patty Gale) http://www.virtualwordpublishing.com, and http://www.publicity-VA.com

Increase Your Ezine Sign-up Rate By 500% or More Starting Today

If you're satisfied with a newsletter subscription rate of five to ten percent, then you don't need any of the information I'm about to share with you. If you're serious about converting up to 50%, or more of your website visitors into newsletter subscribers, though, then read on. It's time to leave your low sign-up rates behind by following these two easy steps.1. Make signing up for your newsletter your visitor's only option; otherwise they miss out on all of the free sign-up bonuses and your incredible website content. Give them something to lose. Let them know that they could be making a huge mistake by not subscribing, and back up your words with valuable free bonuses and information-rich content that makes them glad they did.Do this by making your entry page your ezine sign-up page. If you have to write 1000-1500 words to convince them to subscribe, then do it. Treat this page like a sales page.Tell them all of the features of subscribing, and more importantly, all of the benefits.Don't sell them on your product, sell them on your newsletter and the valuable bonuses they'll get get by subscribing. Your home page and your newsletter signup page should be one and the same. Here's the logic behind this strategy. Imagine that your website converts one percent of your visitors into paying customers, and ten percent into ezine subscribers, ten percent of which buy your product as well. That means that only two percent of your website visitors end up purchasing your product. While not bad by any stretch of the imagination, imagine converting one percent of initial visitors into sales, and 50% of the remaining visitors into newsletter subscribers. Simply follow step two and your previous sales attempts will pale in comparison.2. Now all you have to do is pre-sell them with an autoresponder that comes in seven or more installments. Assuming you're able to convert ten percent of your subscribers into paying customers, you've just converted six percent of your visitors into sales, a 200% increase! If your product is related to the self-development field, for example, your autoresponder could be a seven-day self-help mini-course that whets their appetites and that, while helping them, leaves them wanting more.Regardless of whether or not your ezines subscribers ever purchase the product that you are selling, you can still make back-end sales of other products, either products that you have created or that you can earn affiliate commission from.Bear in mind that you can also use this strategy even if you're not selling your own product. You can include a link to a product offering affiliate commission at the end of each installment of your autoresponder. Do whatever affords you the best opportunity to profit! How good your sales page and your product is, is totally in your hands. But by combining a great product, a great sales page, and the above two-step formula, there are no limits on how much you can profit!**Attn Ezine editors/Site owners** Feel free to reprint this article in its entirety in your ezine or on your site so long as you leave all links in place, do not modify the content and include our resource box as listed below.Feel free to substitute your referral link in place of ours in the resource box.
Ezines Are Effective In Advertising Your Online Business? plus articles and information on Ezine-Marketing

Ezines Are Effective In Advertising Your Online Business?

'Ezines are the most cost effective way to advertise your business opportunity'. I'm sure you've heard that phrase many times if you've been marketing on the internet for a while. But is that a myth or a fact?An Internet Marketer once advertised that he can guarantee $1,000 profit for the user within weeks if he used the techniques outlined in his ebook. And the secret of the ebook - advertise in Ezines using $2,000 and you are guaranteed success unless your product is useless. Well I didn't try it at the time because I couldn't find $2,000 lying about in the house or in my bank account. However, it does show the belief people have with Ezines. There are 3 types of ads in Ezines:Classified AdsThese are small ads which you can find at the bottom of newsletters. There is limited space in these ads therefore your ads have to be eye-catching. Classified Ads in ezines are cheap and sometimes free due to its limited space and location which is at the end of the ezine.Sponsor AdsThese ads are placed at the top of the newsletter and sometimes in the middle. Some ezines have more than one sponsor ads. Sponsor ads are more expensive than Classified ads and can contain more words so your ad can be more descriptive. Sponsor ads are more effective than Classified Ads as their position in the newsletter is better.Solo AdsSolo ads is the most effective way out of the three type of ads for generating response.Solo ads fills up a whole email which only contains your advertisement. The newsletter is sent on your behalf to its subscribers. Thus your ad will have the biggest exposure. Solo ads are more expensive than Sponsor ads but more effective.'Great. Super. Fantastic. So what's your advice Alan?' My advice is advertising in Ezines do work. And they work very well. Some people don't think so because after placing some ads and seeing very little or no response they think they have proven that Ezine advertising is a lie used by Ezines Publishers.Well I can tell you now that they are getting poor responses because they have not followed the rules for advertising successfully in Ezines.Rules in Advertising in Ezines Successfully1. If you can, save money and advertise using Solo ads. They have the best chances of being read by the subscribers and they have no other ads distracting or competing against.2. Work on your subject line. Even with Solo Ads, people will not open your email if the subject is of no interest to them. Subjects which promises massive fortunes in a few days will get deleted with second thoughts.3. Work on your Content. After the subscribers open your email, your next task is to try and get them to read the content. So make damn sure your content is interesting and enticing enough for them to take some action. Believe the saying "Content is King".4. When you're advertising other peoples' products using affiliate programs do not send the visitors to the product's website. I think people are crazy when they do this. The reason is that you are sending traffic to other peoples websites and if they won't buy you've lost that lead for good. Therefore the aim of you ad is to capture their email address so that you can advertise to them again and again. If they don't buy product A then you can advertise Product B to them. Now don't you think that makes more sense?5. Advertise in well known Ezines and which are related to the topic you are advertising. Advertising stock recommendations to Golf enthusiasts will surely give you a terrible response rate.6. For Classified ads, make sure you are advertising in large numbers such as 100,000. Not many people read Classified ads and you will be listed among other ads as well. However, you might get lucky if your headline is attractive enough. To end this article I'm going to share a secret with you on what I think is the best and cheapest way to advertise in Ezines. That is to write your own articles and ask the Ezine Publishers if they are interested in sending out your articles in an issue of their newsletter. Now let's think about this for a moment. Your own article is published in ezines and placed on their websites. People who write articles are given more respect and are trusted more. Plus your articles will stay on some websites for years which also means that it will generate traffic for years. The traffic is generated with a resource box you can put at the bottom of your article. You can put your URL here and also write a little bit of background about yourself. You are creating a name for yourself on the internet scene and you are also generating leads which you can email your recommendations to. There is no cost for you when Publishers decide to include your article so the only cost coming out of you is the time needed to write the article. In my opinion, writing articles for ezines is the most effective way to advertise using ezines. Not to mention it's cheap and will generate traffic even after many months. If you want to know which ezines to advertise in, the cost, number of subscribers and what services are available that can help you in publish your articles, please send an email to my autoresponder at mailto:ezineart@onlinemoneymachine.comAbout The AuthorAlan Cheng, is the owner of http://www.onlinemoneymachine.com the membership site to help beginners setup a profit generating online business.

Practical Strategies To Boost Your Ezine Readership

Do you have a fresh ezine ready to start taking subscribers but don't know how to attract them?Maybe you have a list already operating that you want to enhance. There are many practical methods available online that can be applied to either situation, some free and some not. This article will cover the basics of:?	Buying leads?	Submitting to ezine directoriesBuying Leads:The easiest way to build your list is to buy "leads" from companies such as ListOpt or LeadFactory. Leads are people who have shown an interest in what you offer, and provide you their name and email address. What you do is create an ad, usually about three lines long, 60 characters to a line, and the lead company will put your ad out on the Internet and capture potential prospects for you. What you must absolutely avoid are companies who sell pre-assembled lists of email addresses. These addresses are not "opt-in", and are not only worthless but can get you accused of spamming! An "opt-in" lead is a person who has specifically seen YOUR ad and shown an interest in what you offer by giving out their email address JUST for the purpose of getting on your list.It is important to distinguish between "single opt-in" and "double opt-in" when buying leads. Most good lead companies will offer both, double opt-in being slightly more expensive. In the case of single opt-in, when a potential prospect gives their email address in response to your ad, it is then supplied to you as-is. You don't know for SURE that the address you got really belongs to the person who supplied it.With double opt-in, the lead company will send a "confirmation" email to the address supplied by each potential prospect, requiring them to click a link to verify that they are indeed the owner of that email address. As you can imagine, double opt-in leads are more safe and secure.NOTE: If you use an autoresponder like GetResponse to run your ezine, check your user settings to see if your list sends out a "confirmation" email to verify subscribers. If so, and if you buy double opt-in leads from a lead company, you will in effect be creating a "triple opt-in" process for your potential prospects! This may severely reduce your readership, as people will have to not only confirm their email address through the lead company, but once again through your autoresponder. The idea is to only make them confirm once, so either buy single opt-in leads and have your autoresponder confirm, or buy double opt-in leads and don't let your autoresponder confirm. Be aware that in GetResponse, once you turn the confirmation feature on, you cannot turn it back off, ever. The lead company you choose may have different options for delivering your potential prospects to you. These may include a daily list sent to you via email, which you will then have to import manually into your autoresponder (if you use one), or they may send prospects directly to your autoresponder. Be sure to review all these options before choosing a lead company.Submitting to ezine directories:An ezine directory is a website which compiles a list of ezines. Some only list ezines that relate to a certain subject while others allow a wide range of subjects. Most directories will not allow ezines which contain pornography, "hate", "anti-government", or other related subject matter to be listed on their site.Submitting your ezine to a directory costs nothing and takes little time. Just go to any major search engine and look up 'ezine directories'.Some results for your search will be actual ezine directories, others may be web pages which contain a list of them. Browse through all sites methodically to find as many ezine directories as possible. In each directory, there will be a link somewhere on the website that says something to the effect of "submit your ezine". When you click it, you will be taken to a page with a submission form to fill out.Be sure to give the details of your ezine in a purely informational style. It is not an advertisement, so leave out all catch-phrases and other hype.Visit as many directories as time allows. The more you submit to, the more people searching for the information you offer will be likely to find your ezine while browsing those directories. There is a software program called EzineAnnouncer which makes this whole process much quicker. It will submit your ezine to a large number of directories for you, without you having to spend time doing it all manually. It costs money, so check it out and decide for yourself if you feel it's worth it.How much time and money you spend is up to you. If you formulate a plan and stick with it, using the techniques outlined above will result in a significant boost (even an explosion!) in your ezine subscriber list. Give them a try, you will be surprised by how well they work.Copyright 2005 Jeremy HershbergerJeremy Hershberger is a computer specialist, Internet marketer, and webmaster of his "Plug-In Profit Site".

Writing e-Newsletters ? Tricks of the Trade

Follow 10 simple rules of thumb, and you'll soon be writing great e-newsletters and reaping the rewards.Company e-newsletters can be an amazingly successful marketing technique. Whether you want to up-sell or cross-sell, establish your brand or establish your authority, or simply reach a wider market, an e-newsletter can do the job for you. You just have to make sure you write it right.Television, radio, and print advertising are often too expensive for many businesses to justify ? especially small businesses. Fortunately, there is an alternative. Today's internet and email technologies make company newsletters a very inexpensive, yet surprisingly effective, form of advertising. When it comes to newsletters, big companies and small are finally competing on a level playing field. So what is an email newsletter? An emailed newsletter serves much the same purpose as a traditional company newsletter. Think of it as a short newspaper ? but instead of relating to a town, city or country, it relates to your business. You can include articles on new products or services, awards, recent success stories and case studies, promotions, specials, share price rises, company events, research? And if it's a quiet month, you can simply write articles that might help your customers out.10 Steps to SuccessFollow 10 simple rules of thumb, and you'll soon be writing great newsletters and reaping the rewards?1) Keep It New! Your readers won't waste time reading something they already know, so make it news they can use.2) Keep it personal: Always use your reader's name. Make sure when someone signs up, you get their name, then use it in the subject line, in the greeting, and anywhere else you can.3) Know your reader: Find out what your reader is interested in. Do some pro-active research, invite response, or find an email marketing solution such as Ezemail** that tracks the links your readers click on and keeps a history of their activity.4) Let them know you: Let your personality shine through. Readers are far more likely to become loyal if they feel they know you. Always include a bit of you in the newsletter, whether it's humour, personal details, personal anecdotes, or personal views.5) Subject is Headline: The subject line of an email newsletter is like a front-page headline in a newspaper. You need to draw the reader in, so make it engaging and relevant (maybe promise a benefit) but no more than 25 characters so your reader can see it all before opening the email.6) Use a Title bar: Make the most of the title bar to add visual appeal and establish brand awareness.7) Make it 'scannable': Most people don't read online ? they scan. Make sure you use easy-to-read bullet points and sub-headings. Don't lose your reader's attention. Reading is physically more difficult online, so make sure you're concise. Use links to other places instead of writing long articles.8) Use White space!: If your page is too busy, you'll lose your reader. Give them a chance to absorb valuable information by dedicating about 30% of your screen real estate to white space.9) Easy unsubscribe: Make your unsubscribe easy to find. If it's obvious, they'll feel safe and can then appreciate the content. To many people, the ease of unsubscribing is an indicator of the integrity of your company.10) Forward to a friend: Include a link to encourage readers to forward the newsletter on to their friends and colleagues. Find an email marketing solution which allows you to do this and sit back and watch your database grow!** Ezemail enables you to create, manage, deliver and track your email marketing and sales communication.

10 Tips for Successful Ezine Advertising

If you're like most people starting out on the
Internet, you've been along this well-worn path:You try free classified ad sites and get bombarded
with spam by people trying to sell you stuff. You try banner exchange programs and get a handful of
click-throughs.You finally get into the top twenty results in the
Search Engines, and then a week later your site has
dropped back to number 150.The Internet may the largest market in human history,
but how on earth do you reach those millions of
people?Well, the answer is ezine advertising. Its the surest way on the Web of reaching your target
audience.Ezines (short for 'electronic magazines') are email
newsletters that are sent out regularly to
subscribers, like the one you're reading. They're
sometimes called 'opt-in' lists because everyone who
receives an ezine has chosen to do so.And that's why ezine advertising gets results. People
read ezines and they'll read your ad. And if you've
matched the ezine to the product you're selling,
you've reached your target audience.Have a look at the ads in your favorite ezine - why
are they there? Because they get results. There are currently around 90,000 ezines being
published every month. So whatever you're selling,
there's more than likely an ezine that will take your
ad straight to the audience you want to reach.Ezine advertising is not only effective, its cheap as
well. A 5-line ad in an ezine that goes to 3000 people
will cost you between $5 and $20 per issue. As a general rule, you'll always get back at least the
cost of the ad, and usually much more. So there's very
little risk. But there are some tips for successful ezine
advertising. Here they are:1. The first and most important rule in ezine
advertising is: "Track your Ads!". You might place
your ad in 5 different ezines and get a hundred
responses, but if you don't track your ads, you won't
know which ezines were pulling responses and which
weren't.To advertise effectively in ezines, you must learn
from experience - its a process of trial and error.
Eventually, you'll end up with a handful of ezines
that you know are bringing you a high response rate.
After that, just keep placing your ads in those ezines
and you'll have a guaranteed stream of customers. But how do you track your ads?The simplest method is to place a key or a code at the
end of your email address. If your ad was in this
ezine (for example), this is the email address you'd
place with the ad:yourname@yourdomain.com?subject=freezineThen, when you get a reply with 'freezine' in the
subject field, you'll know which ezine it came from. For a URL, it's the same principle:http://www.yourdomain.com?freezineHowever, if you're going to code your URLs, you'll
need a sophisticated webstats program to track the
coded URLs. Here are a couple of free ones:http://www.hitbox.com.
http://www.openwebscope.com.Here's another way to code your URLs : for every ezine
ad, create a duplicate of your homepage and name the
page after the ezine that your ad will appear in. So,
if the ad is appearing in Ezine A, this is the URL
you'd place in that ad:http://www.yourdomain.com/EzineAAgain, you'll need to use a good web stats program to
track the hits to your coded URLs.2. The second rule is to target your audience. It may
seem obvious but some advertisers overlook this. If
you're selling a web-marketing course, don't advertise
in an ezine that deals with stock options; they
probably won't be interested.Use the 'subject categories' in any ezine directory to
find ezines that relate to the product you're selling.
You can find a list of 60 ezine directories in 'The
Free Directory of Ezines' at:http://www.netmastersolutions.com/more-directories.html3. Once you've chosen a number of ezines that target
your audience, subscribe to them and examine the ads
closely. If you see an ad that keeps repeating issue
after issue, you can be pretty sure that its getting
results. You've found a good ezine to advertise in.4. Check to see how many ads are in the ezine. You
don't want your ad lost in an ezine farm at the bottom
of the newsletter. You probably won't get much
response from an ad in an ezine that has 15 or 20 ads
per issue. Readers of those ezines have become
hardened to the ads and have learnt to skip them.5. Check to see if the ezine publisher has a policy of
never running ads for two similar products in the same
issue - your ad will be much more effective if its the
only one of its kind in that particular issue.6. Small ezines vs. Big ezines: bigger is not always
better. The big ezines with 1000's of subscribers tend
to have more ads than the small ezines. Also, small
ezines with only a few hundred subscribers often have
a much more targeted audience than the big ezines.7. Repeat your ads. Research shows that off the Web,
an ad has to be seen about 21 times before someone
acts on it; on the Internet its about 9 times. If your
budget allows, try and have your ad repeated at least
three times in a particular ezine. Most ezines offer
discount packages for bulk advertising.8. Email address vs. URL. Opinions are divided on
this; some people prefer to give an email address,
others prefer to give a URL. The advantage of giving
an email address is that it gives you the opportunity
to send a powerful sales letter to the person who
responded to your ad. Its also much easier to track
your ads with an email address than a URL.9. Offer something free in your ad copy. It'll often
tip the balance between a response and no response.10. Keep your ads short, even if you're not using the
number of words you're allowed. Short ads are more
likely to be read. Keep your sentences short too; they
pack much more power. Use the word 'You'. Don't
describe your product but tell the reader what your
product can do for them.------------------------------------------------------------
