Or for ways of writing a sales letter so that you sell more?Then you need to understand why people buy in the first place.People buy things because they want to. Not necessarily because they need to.We don't need to buy expensive designer clothes, for instance, but we want to. Because we want to look good, and great clothes makes us look good. Why do we want to look good? In many cases, simply to attract the opposite sex.This is why so many designer clothes ads use sex to sell.It's simple, but it works. In a magazine ad ? by placing a guy in a particular designer suit next to a couple of beautiful women, the readers subconsciously thinks that by buying that suit, he too will attract beautiful women.Emotion makes you buy. Wanting to achieve something makes you buy.You need to trigger the reader's desire for your product. Not necessarily by focusing on your product, but on how his life will change when buying this product.Focus on the potential customer, not your product.You can't force people to buy. Unfortunately, some of you might say.But why force someone, when you can make them want to buy voluntarily? With much better results? Trigger their emotions so that they want to buy. Make them want your product. Feed them with emotional triggers so that they get excited about the project. Let them so the sales job.How to trigger their emotions?Tell your reader how his or her life will change after buying your product. Are you selling power shower heads? Tell them how fantastic you'll feel every morning using these heads. Describe it. Compare your power shower heads to the ordinary, cheap shower heads.Show them how the features of the product will benefit the buyer.Appeal to his or her emotions.Are you selling cars? Let the prospect sit in the car, let him drive the car. Point out all the little details, like the high quality leather that is used on the seats. (Don't say a word yet about how much this costs extra.) Paint him a picture...describe to him how wonderful it'll be to drive this car every day. Describe how the product will change his life.Make them want your product.But in order for the emotional appeals to work, you need to use logic, too. Because the prospect must justify his uncontrollable urge to buy.After the initial emotional appeal, give him all kinds of logical reassurances of why it's OK to buy. Tell him how much money he will save using your product, tell him you've reduced the price of your product so that if he likes it he'd be much better off buying straight away, tell him that you will give him additional bonuses if he buys immediately, and the best trick of all?Tell your potential customer that he can return the product to you at any time and get a full refund if he's not entirely happy about it.This is the ultimate logical appeal.If he wants your product; if you've made him want your product -  the main thing holding him back is money. If you take away this risk, he's got nothing to loose.Use emotion to get your readers to desire your product by showing them how they will benefit from the product. Because you can have the most awesome product or service to offer, but without a plan in place, you may flounder for direction and waste a lot of time and energy as a result.What a Marketing Plan Should IncludeAs you prepare your plan it should contain data and specifics pertaining to your company's goals, the product or service you're offering, how you intend to market it and a means for measuring your success. Generally speaking, larger companies create plans that are extremely comprehensive in size and nature while smaller companies will do just as well with a briefer strategy.Create an ObjectiveStarting with a clear objective for your marketing plan may mean spending a bit of time in contemplation but it's important to be certain as to the overall purpose and objective of your company. Take some time to focus on what you really want to achieve and you'll get there much faster.As an example, when I first began my writing/consulting business, I thought long and hard as to what I intended. It was essential that I share my talent in a positive and meaningful way so that not only was I personally rewarded but I also wanted to be sure that what I offered would help other people succeed. I knew that I wanted to create material that would be impressive, effective and dynamic, but I also relished in the idea of empowering other people.  So with those thoughts in mind I created an intention that aligned with my purpose. It is as follows: &quot;My intention as a Writer/Consultant is to fully succeed at providing my clients with high quality written material that uniquely reflects their objectives while helping them stand apart from the crowd!&quot;Be Aware of Your MarketConsider whether there are particular trends in your industry. Pay special attention as to which audience you are trying to reach. Have you researched the need for your product? Are you aware of your competition? Are layoffs affecting your particular arena and if so is it to your benefit or detriment? The economy does not necessarily influence some industries, but because it does have some bearing on many markets, you may want to be aware of those markets.Your Marketing StrategyHow do you intend to market your product or service? If you are not promoting your business in some way, it's easy to forget your company, so including an effective marketing strategy is essential. Think about some of the largest companies in the world and how they are constantly brainstorming in an effort to keep the public's attention. Notice how we are collectively bombarded with new commercials and announcements daily making sure we never forget certain products or services. Of course most of us cannot compete with huge companies, however there are many ways to promote your business without it costing a lot of money. It simply requires a bit of thought and creativitySetting Time and Accomplishment GoalsGenerally your plan should cover a period of from six months to a year. Ask yourself periodically if you've taken all the steps that you planned. Are you within your schedule? Are you attracting the clientele you had hoped to attract? Are you making good contacts that return or send referrals? Are you building rapport with customers? Does the plan need some rearranging or rethinking? Check the plan you've prepared on a monthly basis as a measure for meeting your goals and objectives. If you find that you're on target keep the plan in place. But if you obviously see that something isn't working, rethink your marketing strategies.Finally, while you may hope for the day when you can sit back reaping the benefits of your efforts, you can never stop marketing. You must keep an open mind and never get stuck in sameness. If you find one avenue isn't bearing fruit, simply recognize it as an opportunity to explore other possibilities. Or simply get back to basics, which includes writing a new article, sending out a press release, saying hello to old clients via e-mail or simply getting quiet for a few days until you're inspired. Perhaps the biggest contributing factor to a successful web site is incoming links or Back Links. Without links, your website will more than likely go unnoticed. So how should you accumulate these links? Below are a few basic methods to accumulate quality back links.Before you get startedYou MUST understand how search engines work. Over 90% of your business will likely come directly from search engine results. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to optimize your site for search engines. You could have the greatest deals in the entire world, but if no one knows about them then your efforts are wasted. Do a search on google for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). You will find tons of great information on how to create a website that is both user friendly and search engine friendly. There are also countless numbers of companies and freelancers out there who offer SEO services. Just be cautious of their offers and do your research first. Remember, NO ONE can guarantee top placement in major search engines, no matter what they say.Where should back links come from?1. Articles are a fantastic source of links and additional traffic to your site. There are countless sites online that want your articles. It's a win win situation for everyone. When you write articles and submit them online, you are able to leave a link to your own site and sometimes even anchor text. I know what you're saying, &quot;I can't write about anything.&quot; I use to feel the same way. But the truth of the matter is, anyone can write. You just have to find a topic that interests you. You can write about anything from dogs, to computers, to personal training, to web hosting, heck you can even write about writing. The bottom line is, articles are a valuable source of &quot;relevant&quot; back links to your site.2. Submit to directories. There are literally hundreds of &quot;free&quot; and &quot;paid&quot; directories online. With 3 hours of painless work, you can have your site submitted to hundreds of great directories. There are many quality lists of directories that are regularly updated. One of my favorites is http://www.best-web-directories.com/ which is always updated and maintained.3. Develop link exchanges with relevant sites. The major search engines such as google see incoming links from relevant sites, and give them more rank compared a link from an unrelated site. For example, if you have a website about pet care products, your link strategy should target pet related sites. Again with a bit of hard work and determination, you can develop a great deal of &quot;relevant&quot; back links.4. Forums are a great source for additional traffic and links. Many forums allow their users to display signatures in their posts. These signatures can consist of both text and links. When you post a new message on that forum, your websites link will be displayed for everyone to see. This not only helps build valuable back links, but will bring additional traffic to your website.5. Join a link co-op. Co-ops such as the one found at http://www.digitalpoint.com/ are an amazing source of valuable back links and free advertisement. What is a co op network? A Co op network is a network of site owners/webmasters that offer ad space to the network. In return, the ads they define are displayed across the entire network. The best part of ad networks such as the one found at digital point, is, they are free. Having your site in a co-op can literally mean thousands of back links for your site.6. Buying ezine ads is a paid method of advertising, but it works, because it is the most targeted of these approaches. Write a concise ad for your business, and link to either a lead-capture page or directly to your autoresponder. Then, begin contacting ezines to place your ad. (Do a search for &quot;ezine directories,&quot; and you will find enough lists to keep you busy.) When you contact an ezine, look for rates for both classified ads and solo ads. The advantage to a solo ad is that your ad goes out by itself in a separate email, but they can be more expensive. Because these ads are targeted (you should NOT advertise in an unrelated ezine), you will definitely see traffic, but you will need to track your results to see which ezines bring you the most and best traffic.7. Ad Swaps can be an exellent source of advertising. Start by writing some killer copy (to coin a phrase...there are many free articles and ebooks writen on the subject). Simply use your favorite search engine and type in...how to write ad copy. I googled this as I am wriying this and it showed 12,400,000 results. WOW! Once you have your ad written, search out Ezines that are in the same catagory as your business or service. Again use your favorite web search. Build yourself a list of ezines and then email them asking if they except ad swaps. Include your ad in your corrospondance with the ezines so they can see what you are offering. Another place to check for ezines is to type in Ezine directories in your seach engine. Look up ezines in your catagory of business or service. Most listings will tell you if they except ad swaps and the peramiters of the ad such as how many lines and how many characters per line. Don't forget to ad your website url in your ad.If you want to have a successful site, whether-it-be a hobby or for business, you have to understand how search engines work. Part of that understanding, is knowing about link development. Maybe in the early 90's the idea of &quot;if you build it they will come&quot; might have been true. But in the year 2005 the internet is a far more competitive and complex place. To be successful today, you have to work at it. <p>Recently, I stumbled upon a simple way to hit the target on my Internet marketing strategy for driving potential web traffic to my site. For me, this was an incredible &quot;Ah Ha,&quot; because I am not a &quot;techie&quot; and my sales strengths are building relationships and understanding numbers.  The Internet by its very nature provides an immediate obstacle to building relationships, but offers opportunities to gather and analyze numbers.  And this is where many small businesses and even some larger businesses fail to capitalize upon this potential business strategy in their Internet marketing efforts.Every day I receive at least one if not several articles about article submission as a  marketing strategy to increase web site traffic.  And yet, not one of these articles discusses if these articles are meeting the needs of potential readers.  One senses that if you write enough articles or white papers (quantity), you will increase your business (quality).  This reminds me of the old saying &quot;Build It and They Will Come.&quot;So how do you truly know what articles are being read when you use a paid article distribution service and more specifically what topics are generating the greatest interest? Even though my practice focuses on education and training through organizational and leadership development, I recently authored an article &quot;How to Gain Web Traffic Through 9 Simple Tips.&quot; This article was my sharing of my recent experiences through the advice of two marketing experts (www.hodgecomunications and www.leaders-perspective) as I actively worked one goal within my strategic plan to increase traffic to my web site.This article was first posted on 08/27/05 at www.ezinearticles.com and then submitted to a paid article distribution service www.articlemarketer.com.  I was quite surprised when reading the &quot;time viewed&quot; through my free membership and monitoring page at Ezine Articles.  Using my most frequently viewed article &quot;Work Ethics  - A Paradigm Shift&quot; posted on 04/20/05, I then checked the average daily views through an excel spreadsheet that I had created for all submitted articles. What I discovered to my amazement was that the web traffic article was receiving almost 15 views a day while the other article received around 3 views a day.  To ensure that this wasn't an anomaly, I reviewed other daily view rates and learned that no other article was even close.Wow!  With 38 articles in the distribution highway, one article was out performing the other 37 by almost five to one. Remember the Parento Principle: 20% of your efforts account for 80% of your results. For someone who continually advocates if you can't measure it, you can't manage it, I then realized that this adage also applies to writing articles as well as to watching the statistics from my web site. Since this article was distributed, my daily web visits have increased 50% in just 6 days.Is this article solely responsible for this increase? Absolutely, not.  However, given the measurable increase in traffic, the number side of my brain began to click in.  I began to wonder if I concentrated my activity during the next month on articles focusing on Internet marketing and web traffic would I continue to secure a daily view rate of 15 or greater for those submissions?
