How To Keep Your Resolutions and Reach Your Goals

Another year has flown by and here you are at the beginning of another year. This is a time when many people assess their life and make "new year resolutions" or set goals for the New Year. Sometimes they are the exact same resolutions as last year!! Did you make some of these?I will:* Lose weight, get into shape, and exercise more
* Spend more time with my family
* Stress less & relax more
* Get more sleep
* Save money
* Change jobs
* Be happyIf any of these resolutions sound familiar this is because these are some of the most popular resolutions made each year according to "How To Keep Your New Years Resolution.com"The Oxford Dictionary definition of resolution is to decide firmly or have great determination, but most people are lucky if their resolution is kept until the end of their holidays. It's no wonder many people find themselves making the exact same resolutions the next year. So how can you be successful in sticking to a resolution or successfully achieve any goal?FIRSTLY...work on one thing at a time. Goals or resolutions involve change and sometimes it's easier to give up and sink back into our old life patterns than stick to change. So only do one thing at a time or you may be tempted to give up!SECONDLY...PLAN..PLAN..PLAN..you've heard the saying "People who fail to plan, plan to fail." Think about your goal. WRITE IT DOWN!!!! Put it where you will see it everyday. Set a start date. Develop a strategy. Write a list of points to help you reach your goal-break it down into manageable pieces and tackle it one piece at a time.THIRDLY...Prepare for those obstacles that you know will come up. You know what I mean-if you have decided to lose 10kg you know someone will bring a chocolate cake to work on the first day of your diet. So think about what obstacles will come up and a plan to tackle each one. If you slip up-don't let this make you totally give up. See it as one step back among all the steps you have taken and will take forward!!!!
Remember to reward yourself for every step forward you do take-this will keep you in action and motivated.LASTLY......GET SUPPORT...this is a must. It's much easier to stay in action if you feel supported and also accountable to someone. You could buddy up with a friend or relative (as long as you are definitely sure they will support you). Or for unbiased support chose a Personal Life Coach to keep you motivated and in action.Lisa Branigan specialises in coaching women who are stressed, tired and overwhelmed with their busy lives.
Fear -- Feel It and Keep Moving plus articles and information on Positive-Attitude

Fear -- Feel It and Keep Moving

Many of us allow our fear to stop us in our tracks. All it takes is a less than encouraging word, a negative facial expression, or a less than positive opinion, and we give up before we even get started. We're afraid of:
the word "no" because it means failure
the word "yes" because it means responsibility
the disapproving look because it means rejection
the whispers and grins because they mean judgment, and
the absence of support because it means abandonmentLet's look at these five catalysts to failure and how they can be overcome.Abandonment
Little James Earl was scared. His father had left the family to become a prize fighter and actor. His mother had left to earn money as a tailor. The Great Depression had stolen his family and he was about to lose the only life he had ever known. His grandparents had adopted him and now they were on their way to Michigan.Rejection
Though his life in Mississippi had been one of abandonment, it was all the 5-year-old boy had known. The move to Michigan so traumatized him he developed a stutter. His first day of school was a disaster. His stuttering made his classmates laugh at him. It was the final straw for a frightened little boy. He closed his mouth and simply quit talking? for eight years!James Earl was completely mute ? with the exception of conversations he had with himself when he was all alone. He found solace in the written word ? creating poetry to release the raging in his soul.Judgment
As is often the case, one person who saw beyond his limitations released James Earl from his self-imposed prison. That one person was an English teacher who saw talent in the silent 13-year-old. She pushed him beyond his fear by forcing him into public speaking ? insisting he recite a poem in front of the class every day. Can't you imagine his terror when he first stood in front of his classmates? What made him do it? Was it only the teacher's insistence? No. It was a deep desire to break free from his prison and speak all the things that had sat silently in his heart during all those years. He chose to feel the fear ? and then do it anyway!Failure
He stuttered. He stammered. He endured the sympathetic and scornful looks of fellow students. He endured the laughing. But he did it. He faced the fear and forced himself to speak. Day after day. Week after week. He hung onto the encouragement of the teacher who believed in him. And it worked. His stuttering became less. He learned to control his voice.Responsibility
His victories made him look for more challenges. James Earl began to take acting lessons. His early lessons in perseverance gave him the courage to push beyond the prejudices against black actors. He chose to take as many different types of roles as he could ? stretching his limitations and refusing to be pigeon-holed with any stereotypes.Beyond the Fear
James Earl Jones is now known for his deep authoritative voice. Perhaps you know him as the voice of Star War's Darth Vader or as Mufasa in the Lion King. You see him almost daily on commercials. He has starred on Broadway and been in many movies. He has been laden with Tony, Emmy and Obie Awards.People look at him today and see a confident actor with a deep, resonant voice. The next time you see him, look deeper. . .James Earl Jones' great secret to success is that he chose to push beyond his fears. He chose to change the reality of a young boy who had lived in silence for eight years. He chose to face ridicule and scorn in order to be free. I can only imagine how many years passed before he could open his mouth without being afraid of what would come out.So many of us let our fears stop us. We're afraid of how we will appear. We're afraid of what people will think. We're afraid we'll fail. And so.. . we do nothing. We exchange fear for regret.Fear will pass. Fear can be conquered. Fear will fade away in the face of determined action.Regret ? well, you'll live with that for the rest of your life. What are you afraid of? Name the fear. Choose to face it. And take action to conquer it today! You, too, can live a life of success by feeling the fear and moving beyond it.The story for this article was taken from Ginny Dye's Daily Secrets For Success.

10 Slam-Dunk Crafts For Little Kids -- And Bigger Kids Too!

Crafting with young children really isn't about creating something in particular. Most young children don't have the foresight to see what a project is going to be.For young children it's more important that they have the opportunity to play and experiment with art. Kids need to use as many of their senses as possible to get the most out of crafting. This allow them to try new sensory experiences, as well as learn causal relationships. These are my 10 favorite crafts for little kids based on all that AND the 'fun factor.'1. Finger painting: Finger painting is a wonderful activity for kids. It lets them 'feel' the craft as well as be creative. You don't have to have finger paints to do this activity with kids. You can finger paint with homemade paint, watercolors or even mud. You can also experiment with adding
other things to the paint such as sand or glitter.2. Yarn Painting: Dip pieces of string or yarn into paint and then drag it across the paper to paint with it. It's a good experience to paint with something other than a brush and you can just throw the yarn away when finished.3. Q-Tip Painting: Use Q-tips to create a painting. There are lots of ways to use a Q-tip - scrub, dot, or use it like a brush. It's a good coordination exercise because Q-tips are small around, but it also provides a lot of interest for the child.4. Glue Art: Draw squiggle lines on a piece of paper or let the child use their finger to make random glue spots or patterns on a piece of paper. Experiment with adding different objects to the glue. Sand, glitter, cotton, yarn, feathers, and tissue paper all work well.5. Salt Dough Sculpture: Make a batch of salt dough and turn the kids loose with it. You don't have to worry about them eating it (it's safe and tastes terrible) and clean up is easier than play dough. If you want to keep their creations, let them dry overnight and then paint them the next day.6. Toe Painting: If it's a warm summer day, put on the swimsuits, put some finger paint into pie tins, lay out large sheets of poster paper, and let them 'paint' all afternoon. They will have a ball and all you have to do is hose them off when they are done (that's my kids' favorite part actually!)7. Found Object Art: This project is always a sure thing because kids love to 'discover' things. Let your child gather up leaves, sticks, flowers, etc. and then glue them onto a piece of paper. When they are done, let them tell you about their collection.8. Peanut Pictures: Every kid loves to play with packing peanuts -- but it makes such a mess. Let them create pictures with them instead. Kids can draw on them, glue them to a sheet of paper, or glue the peanuts to each other to make a sculpture. The kids will love it!9. Sticker Play: Turn your child loose with a bunch of stickers, markers, and a sheet of paper and let them create. It's good for little ones to work on their coordination, and it's fun!10. Stamping: Kids love to use any kind of stamps. My favorites are the self-inking stamps or the double-sided markers with the stamps on one end. This may sound like pure play, but is also teaches young children cause and effect.Chris Yates makes it Easy to craft with Little Kids and

Essay Types and Modes Youll Need to Write for College

~TYPES~You Want Us to Write What? Understanding the Task AssignedWhich academic essay writing types we use depends upon which
disciplines (or classes) we write for. Each instructor or
professor will assign papers that invite us to reveal in
writing what we have learned/what we think about the
material for that particular class:* ANALYTIC-A classic style used in art, science, history,
psychology, education, and most other disciplines across the
curriculum to explore and investigate an idea, process,
person, action, or attitude.* ARGUMENTATIVE-Used in more advanced English classes, in
philosophy, and in courses which include theory.*COMPARATIVE/CONTRASTIVE-Used in most courses where specific
analysis of like and unlike elements, characters, and ideas
lend themselves to comparison.*DEFINITIONAL-Written when we apply a more thorough study to
a topic, especially an abstract one.*DESCRIPTIVE-Used to more intensively, more concretely cover
an idea, item, or subject.*EVALUATIVE-Often confused with analytical, the evaluative
essay moves beyond the what and how to the how much...we put
a value on the topic here.*EXPLANATORY-Also called the expository essay (though I tend
to see all essays as expository, as exposing a truth about
something). With this type we further our own and our
readers' understanding of the subject.*PERSONAL-Also called the response essay, the personal style
essay is still well written (readable for an audience other
than the writer), but is more informal--containing narrative
details that entertain.*RESEARCH-While most essay types will include references or
will quote authorities, the research essay is mostly
informational, using the findings--the stats and facts--we
made investigating the findings of others.~MODES~Modes and Types and Modes...Oh Crimeny! Avoiding ConfusionWe need not panic when called upon to do a specific type of
college paper writing. Why? Because we already use the
types...on a smaller scale. That is, we use miniature versions of the essay types when
we write paragraphs for the complete essay. A type and a
mode are the same thing, then. One is just smaller, while
the other is an extension of the smaller. For example, we write about the forms and functions of
gossip for a sociology paper. We open with a definition
paragraph that shows how the word "gossip" originated from
the word "gospel." Then we continue to discuss how gossip
brings people closer--emotionally, spiritually, and even
physically.Go Easy on Yourself: Your Confusion is UnderstandableJust as we might call all writing expository, we call one
type and one mode an expository type of essay and an
expository mode of writing. So is the piece I'm writing
explanatory, definitional, comparative? I include
explanatory elements. I use definition and example. I slip
a comparison in, too. Here's one way to look at types/modes:--We write a paragraph or passage in a certain mode. --We
can then turn that smaller piece into a whole essay, into
one long, extended mode. Here's another way to look at types/modes:We buy a box of gourmet chocolates. We lift one from the
box: we understand that the thing we hold in our hands is a
chocolate. It also has chocolate in it.Here's one more way to look at types/modes:You own a Camaro with a Corvette engine. They're both
Chevys. You're Going to What, Now? Confuse Us All Over Again? No. Now that we have the types/modes separated enough to
understand the difference, I'll just remind you of one more
thing: we can and usually do overlap the modes. No one
piece of academic essay writing exists in one isolated mode
alone. It includes many varied sub-styles to make it more
engaging, entertaining, and expository. And it requires a number of major parts--an opener, a main
body of text, and a closer. And you know what? These parts
are written in the modes.I'll add more pages on academic essay writing. Much more.
So if you haven't had enough, come back again for monthly
freebies. But for now, if you want to check out samples you
can use as models for modes/types, click here for mode
samples written by college students. One more thing about college paper writing:Enjoy the process. Find one thing in it you like and are
good at.N.H.-born prize-winning poet, creative nonfiction writer, memoirist, and award-winning Assoc. Prof. of English, Roxanne is also web content and freelance writer/founder of http://www.roxannewrites.com, a support site for academic, memoir, mental disability, and creative writers who need a nudge, a nod, or just ideas?of which Roxanne has 1,000s, so do stop in for a visit, as this sentence can't possibly get any longer?.

Baby Boomers and Booklets ? Share and Share Alike

As one of those fabulous Baby Boomers, you now own a lifetime of valuable experiences, experiences that are useful to other people. You've given so much to your family all these years. It's dawning on you there may be a larger audience who would benefit from your knowledge. You're just beginning to hit your stride. Writing a book is too daunting. The speaking circuit isn't quite right, either. What else can you do?One easy answer is a tips booklet. Create a tips booklet from those discoveries you've made -- with your family, your work, your personal interests, your trials, and your victories. You can make a huge contribution to someone else's life by passing along your first-hand wisdom, in bite-sized pieces. It will definitely take you less time, money, and stress to write a booklet than an entire book. Plus you'll become an instant author.Your everyday solutions may have seemed like common sense at the time. And for you, it was. With some distance and further evaluation, you now see what was common sense to you isn't necessarily common sense to someone else.?	Look at the answers you found for creating balance between home and work.?	Re-examine the paths your business took from start to today.?	Think about the journey you had with health care providers for your parents.?	Remember the experiences and ideas you generated traveling with your children.?	Ponder the processes you implemented for volunteer community groups. These are a few ideas to get you thinking. This will jog your memory into a wealth of material to write about, a gold mine to share with others. Your challenge may then become selecting only one topic for a booklet. The process of sharing ideas can be lucrative for you, both in personal reward and in dollars. There are thousands of companies and organizations that will find your booklet useful as a vehicle for promoting their own product, service, or cause. When your booklet relates to a business of your own, that booklet will also be a marketing tool for you every time you sell your booklet to someone else who distributes it for their own purposes. It is a win in every direction.Once you've completed your booklet manuscript and identified potential buyers to contact, consider what other formats the manuscript content can become. Before you know it, you'll have an entire line of information products related to your original idea, products that will serve you and the people receiving your information in ways limited only by your imagination and willingness.Paulette Ensign (herself a thriving Baby Boomer) has personally sold over a million copies of her own tips booklet "110 Ideas for Organizing Your Business Life," in 4 languages and various formats all without spending a penny on advertising. She has clients, worldwide, who have met and surpassed her results. Contact her at http://www.tipsbooklets.com or phone +1-858-481-0890 (Pacific Time Zone).

How to Select Your Martial Arts and Self Defense Equipment

The most common place to buy martial arts or self defense equipment is in the local dojo. Most dojos, training centers, etc., have a small store where you can buy or order the martial arts or self defense equipment you need for your practice.Buying your martial arts or self defense equipment at your local dojo has a lot of advantages. You will get expert advise from your teacher. He knows your needs and what type of martial arts or self defense equipment you are going to need for his classes. He will also be the best person to advise you on the quality of the different brands due to his years of experience with many different suppliers. The negative part of buying martial arts or self defense equipment at your local dojo is the price. Buying only a minor wholesaler, the discount margins are very small and this will reflect itself in the prices your teacher has to charge for the martial arts and self defense equipment he or she sells. The second possibility is buy your martial arts and self defense equipment at a local specialized store. The advantage is a lower price than in your local dojo or gym, you can touch, feel and try on the equipment before you buy to see if you like it and if the size fits you. You can get some advise from the salesperson about the different brands of martial arts and self defense equipment they sell. The downside is the fact that most salespersons in those shops are non practitioners of the martial arts or self defense so they have no practical experience with the equipment they sell. This may lead to mistakes that will cost you money. The third way to buy your martial arts or self defense equipment is to shop for it online. There are many suppliers to be found online that will ship the goods to your doorstep. To find them just type: martial arts or self defense equipment in google or any other search engine and you will get thousands of listings for this term. The advantages are obvious: no need to leave your home, low prices and shipping to your doorstep but the inconveniences are also very obvious: You can not feel, try or touch the equipment before finishing the payment and receiving the shipment of your martial arts or self defense equipment. You won't be able to get advise from a real person, face to face. Some suppliers will be happy to assist you in your selection of martial arts or self defense equipment by email or phone. If you have to return an order for whatever reason you will have to take care of the shipping and packing and refunds can take time to be paid.So before starting to shop for your martial arts or self defense equipment take a look at the above and consider what is the best way for you. Some people will be limited to one or two possibilities and others can only buy their martial arts or self defense equipment online but wherever you go to buy yours, consider the warranty and the refund policies of all 3, the local dojo, the specialized shop and the online supplier. This can save you a lot of headaches. Things do break and sometimes it just isn't manufactured as it should be so warranty and refund policies will help you determine the professionalism of the seller and save you time and headaches.Peter Vermeeren is a traditional martial arts teacher for over 30 year.

Comparison of the Cost and Effectiveness of Holistic Horse Care versus Conventional Care

After years of practicing both conventional and holistic medicine for horses, I decided to compare the cost, effectiveness, and net results of managing and treating horses holistically versus conventionally. In this article I compare results for the average trail horse that is ridden about 2-3 times a week. I have used average feed and veterinary costs for my area (Austin, Texas), and drug and supplement costs from a major horse supply catalog.I then discuss the issues related to each area of care, including feed, supplements, vaccines, dewormers, and first aid. Stay tuned for different profiles in coming months, when I will compare horses in different disciplines, young horses, older horses, and broodmares.>>> Holistic Horse Conventional Horse

7 Techniques to Supercharge your Creativity and Solve your Problems

Do you ever encounter problems, challenges or obstacles in your business? If you answered 'no,' then you can stop reading and continue to rake in the fortune you must be making. For the rest of us, the answer of course is 'yes.'
For the most troubling problems, the biggest challenge is in your inability to come up with new and innovative solutions. This is because when you try to solve a problem, you probably use the same approach every time ('let me sit here and think about it until I come up with something?'). The next time you try to solve a problem, try applying any (or all) of these approaches:
1) Be Obvious - Cances are, whatever your problem is, there is some conventional wisdom about how to solve it. Ask yourself why you are not following it, and evaluate for yourself whether your reasons are valid. Sometimes the easiest solution is the one right in front of us.
2) Be Contrarian - The opposite of being obvious, being contrarian means to consider doing the opposite of what conventional wisdom says. If the standard advice is to buy, think about selling. Instead of working more, work less. Note: This does not mean you should automatically DO what the opposite is; it just means to let your mind wander over the opposite to get it working in another direction.
3) Start Where you are - Sometimes we get so caught up in the long term goal that we lose sight of where we are. Think about your problem and what you might do right now to solve it. Usually this results in frustration because we don't have a fully formed solution. But just because an idea is not fully formed does not mean that it does not have some validity. Start with your current idea and watch as new ideas present themselves.
4) Chunk up - If you can't figure out how to achieve your goal, try looking at the bigger picture. If your goal is to earn $10,000 this month and you can't figure out how, think bigger - maybe you want $10K because you want to earn six figures this year. Then start to brainstorm ways of earning six figures. Don't get so caught up on your problem that you lose sight of the bigger picture.
5) Chunk down - The opposite of chunking up. Think in terms of smaller details. Continuing with the $10K example, if you can't think of how to earn $10,000 this month, can you think of ways to earn $333 per day? Maybe, but even if you can't it gets the mind working in a new way.
6) Take a REAL Break - Stop working on the problem for a bit and let your subconscious work on it. This requires two things. First, you need to actually give your mind a break and recharge. Switching from thinking about one problem to another will not do it. Get away from the problem an your work, even if for only five minutes. Second, make sure you are not dwelling on the problem. Taking a walk to get away from work is great, but if you continue to mull over the problem your not really giving your mind a break from it.
7) Move - Get the blood flowing! Exercise, walk, run, stretch, whatever. Be it from blood flow, endorphins, or a change in focus, physical movement enhances creativity. I do some of my best thinking while shooting baskets. Find out what works for you and do it.
There are many different techniques you can use to solve a problem. Try the few above to start, and then come up with your own. Use them well, and watch yourself create new and exciting solutions faster than ever.Avish Parashar is a professional speaker who runs seminars on creativity, teamwork, productivity, leadership, and communication using the principles of improvisational comedy. http://www.professional-speaker-avish-parashar.com

Dog Anxiety - Fear of Thunderstorms, and Other Dog Fears

How to Deal With Anxiety in Your DogAnxiety in dogs can be caused by any number of things - illness, travel, thunderstorms, death in the family, separation, or they may develop unexplained phobic or neurotic behaviour, or barking or other antisocial behaviour. If you can identify the cause of the anxiety, then the best solution to the problem is to remove the cause. This is not always possible, though. If your dog is experiencing separation anxiety every time you leave the house, and you work full time outside the home, you've got a problem! I suppose you could give up work and stay home with your dog, but sometimes we need to be a little realistic! For this particular problem there are a number of things you can do to alleviate your dog's anxiety when you leave - many people have found that playing soothing music while they're out works wonders.Mozart? - that certainly used to calm my hyperactive son down a little, so Mozart would be my personal first choice, but there are many soothing classical and new age, or even some light rock or jazz music might work - try out whatever you have in your CD collection for starters.Another wonderful idea I read about recently is making a tape recording of your own voice and playing that on a continuous play while you're gone. And there are certain homeopathic and herbal remedies which really do calm your dog. So those may well assist with your dog's separation anxiety. But what about dogs who are afraid of loud noises - my dog Kara has an irrational fear of thunderstorms, and fear of fireworks, and, well, actually, she's scared of just about any loud noises. Many dogs are like this. One New Year's Eve when I was away, Kara dug her way under the house and escaped (due to being terrified of the fireworks which were going off). My neighbours had to pick her up from the pound the following morning. Apparently the dog catchers are out in force on New Year's Eve because they round up many dogs and impound them! A nice little revenue booster for the local authorities. From memory it cost about $100 to get her back.Anyway, I've found that peppermint oil applied to the pads of her paws has some calming effect. And a natural stress remedy also works very nicely. Some years ago, before I became interested in natural remedies for dogs - actually it was following the fireworks incident - Kara became quite determined to continue escaping, for some reason. Once she realised she could get out, she just kept on trying. She was even destroying part of my house in her determination to try to get through the thick wooden boards I had put up to prevent further escapes. So I took her to the vet, as I was at a complete loss to know what to do with her. She was prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. This made Kara quite dopey, and seemed to take some of her personality away somehow. In other words, I suppose she appeared drugged. I didn't like it at all.Now I know that there are much more pleasant, all natural anxiety treatments for dogs, which have no nasty side effects. And they really do work just as well. For more information on Stress Remedies for Dogs, Click Here: http://www.StressRemedies.BrigitteRecommends.com(c) 2005, Brigitte Smith, Healthy Happy DogsBrigitte Smith is a dog lover with a special interest in holistic dog health.

How To Make Readers Desperately and Uncontrollably Wanting To Buy Your Product

Are you looking for ways of persuading your web site visitors to buy your product or service? Or for ways of writing a sales letter so that you sell more? Then you need to understand why people buy in the first place.People buy things because they want to. Not necessarily because they need to.We don't need to buy expensive designer clothes, for instance, but we want to. Because we want to look good, and great clothes makes us look good. Why do we want to look good? In many cases, simply to attract the opposite sex. This is why so many designer clothes ads use sex to sell. It's simple, but it works. In a magazine ad ? by placing a guy in a particular designer suit next to a couple of beautiful women, the readers subconsciously thinks that by buying that suit, he too will attract beautiful women.Emotion makes you buy. Wanting to achieve something makes you buy.You need to trigger the reader's desire for your product. Not necessarily by focusing on your product, but on how his life will change when buying this product.Focus on the potential customer, not your product. You can't force people to buy. Unfortunately, some of you might say.But why force someone, when you can make them want to buy voluntarily? With much better results? Trigger their emotions so that they want to buy. Make them want your product. Feed them with emotional triggers so that they get excited about the project. Let them so the sales job.How to trigger their emotions?Tell your reader how his or her life will change after buying your product. Are you selling power shower heads? Tell them how fantastic you'll feel every morning using these heads. Describe it. Compare your power shower heads to the ordinary, cheap shower heads.Show them how the features of the product will benefit the buyer.Appeal to his or her emotions. Are you selling cars? Let the prospect sit in the car, let him drive the car. Point out all the little details, like the high quality leather that is used on the seats. (Don't say a word yet about how much this costs extra.) Paint him a picture...describe to him how wonderful it'll be to drive this car every day. Describe how the product will change his life.Make them want your product. But in order for the emotional appeals to work, you need to use logic, too. Because the prospect must justify his uncontrollable urge to buy. After the initial emotional appeal, give him all kinds of logical reassurances of why it's OK to buy. Tell him how much money he will save using your product, tell him you've reduced the price of your product so that if he likes it he'd be much better off buying straight away, tell him that you will give him additional bonuses if he buys immediately, and the best trick of all?Tell your potential customer that he can return the product to you at any time and get a full refund if he's not entirely happy about it.This is the ultimate logical appeal. If he wants your product; if you've made him want your product - the main thing holding him back is money. If you take away this risk, he's got nothing to loose.Use emotion to get your readers to desire your product by showing them how they will benefit from the product. Use logic to take away their resistance to buying. Use logic to take away all the risks.About The AuthorSteve Atlas writes regularly for the Internet Marketing Dictionary - http://www.internet-marketing-dictionary.com
