Bad Breath and Gingivitis

Bad Breath and Gingivitis

Does this sound familiar to you? My dentist and hygienist mentioned that I had irritated gums as they cleaned my teeth. This is a symptom of gingivitis.Gingivitis can be a stepping stone to major problems in the mouth and gum line. It can lead to periodontal disease, which is a much more serious problem with the potential for actual bone loss.Halitosis (bad breath) could be related to a gingivitis infection as both are caused by bacteria. Red, swollen and/or bleeding gums characterize gingivitis. These symptoms are most evident upon flossing and sometimes from brushing.Bacteria cause gingivitis. And bacteria are considered to be responsible for bad breath.Sometimes, I could even see the bloodstains that the hygienist quietly wiped away with a towel. It was embarrassing enough to know that I wasn't controlling my gingivitis problem, but to know that she was actually trying not to make a big deal out of it was troubling.I knew my dentist was concerned because she gave me a bottle of alcohol based mouthwash to try and mentioned that she wanted to see how I looked next time. I don't like using it; there is too much alcohol and the taste is not very pleasant. Alcohol may also dry the mucous membranes in the mouth. The ProblemBacteria can stick to your teeth and secrete acid onto them contributing to cavity formation. They can also infect the gums, particularly around the gum line, causing gingivitis. This can manifest initially as bleeding and irritated gums.Having a lot of uncontrolled bacteria multiplying in the mouth may also lead to bad breath, but there is a natural and normal amount of bacteria in the mouth, and you will never completely get rid of them all, nor would you want to.Theory has it that it is actually the anaerobic bacteria that live in the tongue and throat that produce sulfur that in turn produce hard to get rid of bad breath. These anaerobes create VSCs or volatile sulfur compounds. One type is the familiar rotten egg smell. There are other odors coming from VSCs as well. These sulfur-producing bacteria may feed on certain foods, like coffee, alcohol and meats.A gingivitis problem can offer a way for bacteria to easily enter your blood stream and that can lead to additional problems. Systemic infections could come from this. Gingivitis can be something that makes your gums bleed easily in a mild case or it can be the root of deep gum recession, leading to bone loss in the worse case scenarios. (Periodontal disease)Loss of gum line can be discouraging. A friend of mind once described the process as, "getting long in the tooth". Sometimes, people experience this problem by brushing too hard. TIP: Using a soft bristled toothbrush with the type of motion that your hygienist recommends may help prevent eroded gum lines.Treatment and PreventionHad you ever heard of under-the-gum cleanings? This could be part of the protocol your dentist might invoke, should you develop periodontal disease. If you know people that have had an under-the-gum cleaning; they may tell you that it is not very pleasant.Your dentist can deal with this problem in a variety of ways. However, prevention probably is the best option. Include good flossing and brushing habits - see your dentist for details. And you could add a non-alcohol based mouthwash alternative to your regimen.I'm currently using a special toothbrush that uses vibration to clean the teeth. This device does a better job than a regular toothbrush in keeping my teeth clean. It does take a little while to get used to because of the vibration. It makes many, many vibrations per second. This helps to give it such wonderful cleaning abilities.Don't feel sad if you have excellent oral health habits but you still have bad breath. This is common and many people experience this same situation. Oral health products that don't contain sodium lauryl sulfates or artificial flavors that can still kill the bacteria that cause bad breath without using harsh alcohol or tough chemicals may be helpful.I am not a dentist. A Solution For Trouble? Try This Breath Of Fresh Air! – Positive-Attitude

A Solution For Trouble? Try This Breath Of Fresh Air!

I just heard the story of a man who hired a plumber to restore an old farmhouse. After he had finished a rough first day on the job he realized he had a flat tire which made him lose an hour of work; then his electric drill quit, and then his truck refused to start. As his customer drove him home, the plumber sat in stony silence.Hmm?I wonder where this is going? Well, when they arrived at the plumbers home he asked his customer in to meet his family. As they walked toward the front door, the plumber paused briefly and stared at a small tree without saying a word. He reached out very tenderly touching the tips of the branches with both hands, took a deep breath and then the two of them walked inside.Age Before Beauty! After opening the front door, the plumber went through an amazing transformation. His tanned face lit up and he was ear to ear smiles. His customer, very curious, watched as the plumber scooped up his two small children with those big burly hands and then kissed his wife.Afterward, the plumber walked his customer to the car. As they passed the same tree the customer's curiosity got the better of him. He asked him about the tree and what he had seen him do earlier.Greater Love Hath No Man!Oh, said the plumber, that's my trouble tree. He went on to say, "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and children".So, I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning, when I leave for work, I pick them up again. He said, "funny thing is, and smiled, when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before".As I read this story I thought of all the methods and techniques that I have used over the years to renew my mind. And, clean out the subconscious of undesirable thoughts that everyday troubles attempt to gain a stronghold over. And, once again I realize that it's the simple things in life that can have the most profound affects. We have been programmed to believe that the bigger, the more complicated, the more expensive, the more difficult things and solutions are, the more valuable they must be in every way.I mean everybody believes that more is better, right? Obviously, not in everything, because I've never seen anything that is right for everybody. It Just Goes To Show You!Well, I gave the plumber's technique a test and, here is what I learned. It's not the technique, but the attitude. I mean my Lord, you could go outside and rub every branch off of every tree in sight, till the crack of dawn, and not get remove one trouble. So, that's not the answer. When I started to pick mine up the next morning, I stopped and said, whoa!! Dummy. Leave em there. And, I tell you something, sure it was symbolically, but it made my step a little lighter and my countenance a little brighter. But, once you find your "plumbers tree" or, whatever you can relate too, and decide to make that your holding tank for the day's troubles, then you can inform your subconscious that all troubles are to be left there. Then, the next morning you can pick them up on your way out.I believe it helps to make some sort of physical gesture to cause this to have meaning to your subconscious. Reach out and touch "it" or rub "it", whatever "it" is, just don't rub where you already got a rash; nah, I 'm kidding, and, mentally release it to your holding tank for the night.Much Ado About Nothing! Now, if you're the worrying type, I suspect you won't forget to pick em up in the morning when you leave. Cause, Heaven knows you need a few more things to worry about. Don't you get mad at me, I'm kidding. Now, let's analyze this logically. Let's take our emotions out of it for a moment. All you have done is, find an object that you can relate to, a stump, or whatever, and rubbed it. Now, did that make the problem go away? No, of course not. Then what did it do? Well, it might have given you a peaceful night's sleep; it might have helped you to not have indigestion after dinner; it might have even caused you to kiss your wife and pet your cat; In that order, and not reversed. :>)Sealed With A Kiss! Now,your subconscious can be your best friend or your worse enemy. And, it doesn't really care which. It has no preference one way or the other. It's there for your directions given through your conscious. And, you can train it to be your best friend and lover all the time and not just hit or miss. And, it's very simple to train it but, it's not easy to perfect. If you ever slack off, you'll begin to lose some of the previous training. But, as soon as you stop, and head back the other direction, the good benefits begin coming back.A Word To The Wise! Here is something very important. This is not happenstance; it's not trial and error, the subconscious doesn't say, "ok, I'll forget that you decided to go negative for the last two weeks and give you some positive results anyway". Oh no, if you pull that stunt, your subconscious will tell you, you've got a face only a mother could love and hand you a square peg to put in a round hole. Then you'll go spitting all over town saying my "trouble tree" don't work. You see, the subconscious knows exactly how the universe is supposed to work even though we don't, or, we forget. And, it always conforms to the laws of the universe even if it is to our detriment.Yea, our own subconscious will keep giving us the short end of the stick, and then make us believe that sometimes you get to eat the bear and sometimes the bear gets to eat you. Here's what I think of that..Richard Vegas
