Baby Products ? Essential Baby Products, Which Ones Do I Really Need?
There are many essential baby products a new parent must purchase. Cribs, car seats, baby monitors, baby strollers, high chairs and clothing are all necessary to ensure your child's safety and comfort. However, there are many baby products out there that are not worth wasting your money on, but are marketed to parents as being vital for a baby's growth and development. Parents always want the best for their child and therefore purchase these items that do not serve a great function. This guide reveals the important baby products a parent must obtain to properly care for their child.Baby StrollersThe baby stroller is an item every parent must have for his or her child. Before you purchase a stroller, however, consider how you are going to use it and the money you are willing to spend. This makes the process of buying a stroller much easier. There are many types of strollers to choose from including: full-size, mid-size, lightweight, umbrella, jogger, double and triple baby strollers. Parents who do a lot walking should consider purchasing a full or mid size stroller, while active parents are better suited for the jogger stroller. Lightweight and umbrella strollers are appropriate for parents who travel around frequently because they are easy to stow away. Finally, double and triple strollers are made for parents who need to transport two or three young children in one stroller.Baby CribsBabies spend the majority of their time in the crib. Therefore, every parent should invest a significant amount of energy in selecting a safe baby crib and mattress. Safe baby cribs must always have adjustable sides, the space between the crib bars must not exceed 2 and 3/8 of an inch, and the crib must be sturdy. The crib mattress has to be firm and fit properly into the crib because the baby can suffocate if this protocol is not followed. Baby bedding ought to be kept to a minimum-one cotton fitted bed sheet and a light blanket will suffice. Never place pillows, toys or heavy blankets in your child's crib.Baby Car SeatsA baby car seat is one of the essential baby products to purchase for your new child. The car seat protects the child against injury in the event of an accident. There are three main types of car seats available:
Rearward-facing infant car seats
Forward-facing baby car seats
Booster car seats
The rearward facing baby car seats are used mostly for infants who do not exceed 29 pounds to support their neck, back and spine. The forward-facing car seats are perfect for children between 20 and 40 pounds and should be secured with a tether strap on the car frame. Lastly, booster seats are made for children who can no longer fit into a normal child car seat. The booster seat basically lifts the child so they can use a regular seat belt properly. In addition, always remember all child car seats must be placed in the rear of the car away from airbags.Baby High ChairsA high chair is one of the baby products a parent doesn't need right after the infant arrives home from the hospital. Although, once your child can independently sit upright a baby high chair becomes a necessity at mealtimes. Wooden, conventional, adjustable and booster high chairs are just some of the styles on the market. Regardless of the model you choose make sure your highchair has the following features:
The high chair must have two support straps-one should be around the waist and the other must be between the child's legs.
All baby high chairs must have trays that lock firmly into the chair.
The legs of the high chair should be spaced apart in order to properly anchor it to the ground and prevent tipping.
Baby ClothesBaby clothes are one of the obvious baby products a parent must buy. Keep in mind when shopping for clothes to purchase outfits that are functional for you and the baby. For instance, try to choose clothes that are not complicated to get off come changing time. Also, purchase clothing that is appropriate for the season your child is going to be born in. This step prevents you from buying clothing that is not necessary for your baby's immediate needs. When selecting baby clothes hand me downs are a good way to go because babies grow at such a rapid pace. Hand me downs save you a lot of money and usually come in very good condition. Never buy second hand clothing that is worn out because it could potentially rip posing a safety hazard to your baby.Baby MonitorsBaby monitors help parents keep a watchful eye on their little one without having to be in the same room all the time. This enables parents to multi-task without jeopardizing their child's safety. Over the years there have been many technological advances in the baby monitor realm. Sound monitors are still the most extensively used ones, but now visual, temperature, movement and breathing monitors are becoming more common. Visual (or TV) monitors are great for parents who want to see what baby is up to at all times. These monitors are quite expensive, but can later be converted into a security system. Temperature and breathing monitors are useful for parents who are concerned about their child's health. These monitors inform parents of the temperature in the baby's room and whether it is too hot or cold.Other Useful ItemsBesides the aforementioned baby products there are many other small items a new parent needs to purchase for their child. Diapers, pacifiers, bottles, shampoo, soap, bottle warmers, a diaper pail and travel bags are just some of the baby products required. When purchasing baby products always stick to these basic items - do not get sidetracked by gimmicks. Before buying a product always ask yourself the question: "Do I really need this for my baby's well-being?" Good luck with all the shopping!About the AuthorDorothy Smith is a freelance writer, mother and self-confessed bargain hunter who loves to provide tips to consumers shopping for baby products, best baby cribs and best baby strollers.
White Sun: How to Cultivate Ones Body – Positive-Attitude
White Sun: How to Cultivate Ones Body
Drinking damages the soul; being lustful damages the vitality; greed damages the virtues; anger damages the liver; smoking damages the spirit. These are the five poisons between Heaven and Earth. The world is polluted with these five filthy elements. Heaven has the spirit of the five fundamental elements and Earth has the characters of the five fundamental elements. When one is upright, the five fundamental elements within oneself transform into the five virtues. If one is evil, the same five fundamental elements will transform into the five poisons. Thus, drinking, being lustful, greed, indignation, and smoking are the metamorphosis of the five fundamental elements. If one cannot eliminate these five poisons with determination, he would be confined by the five fundamental elements and thus will suffer the consequences when the time is up.The reason why a normal person cannot be a Saint is because he always believes that all of his words and actions are right and good. When a person always sees others' faults and never sees his own, he will never discover his own ignorance, and when he always talks about others' faults and never admits his own, he will only make himself lost to the truth or reality of the world. Occasionally, a Saint will make a mistake, but the reason that a Saint can be called a Saint is because he is courageous enough to admit his mistake and correct them.Be at ease and not rushed in your actions, then your attitute will naturally be dignified. Do not expect others to act according to your ideals, and do not blame others seriously. You should conceal from view some of your good points; this can make you achieve a greater level of cultivation. You should even help others to conceal their shortcomings, as this will make your mind broader. If you can only remember others' good points, then everybody will want to be your friend. But if you only remember others' shortcomings, then your foes will be many.To cultivate one's soul requires one to be remorseful, to perform meritorious deeds, and to cultivate virtue in order to compensate for those sins and karma one has accumulated in this lifetime (or previous lifetimes). A person should not complain, get frustrated when he fails and must be regretful. In so doing he will have the courage to struggle forward again. When successful, a person should be humble, be willing to make concessions, and be yielding at the proper time. For such actions, he will obtain the good result that everyone will respect and follow him.People usually struggle for fame and wealth, and sometimes risk their lives for these things. The superior person never acts in this way, and the inferior person always acts in this way. If one does not dispute with others about profits and advantages, then his annoyances and worries will be dispelled. Thus a person should dispel all material desires from his mind, and then his mind will naturally be quiet. When his mind is quiet and clear, then his soul will be pure, and it will naturally cease to produce the six desires, that is the desire of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, body and awareness, and extinguish the three poisons, that is greed, anger and evil thoughts.Cultivation involves cultivating your body, mind and soul. The best way to cultivate your body is to exercise caution in speech and conduct. The best way to cultivate your mind is to have few desires. The best way to cultivate your soul is to expel sin from oneself.Author: T.A Chew

How to Replace Bad Habits with Good Ones: The Science of ?Habit Management? – Goal-Setting
How to Replace Bad Habits with Good Ones: The Science of ?Habit Management?
Few things are more difficult than kicking bad habits or developing more positive ones. But it is definitely worth the effort. Bad habits like smoking, overeating or self-criticism shorten lives and lead to underachievement, and unsuccessful attempts to change them lower self- esteem. In contrast, good habits create a kind of "success auto-pilot," leading to greater accomplishment with less thought and less effort. So how do you best eliminate bad habits and create good ones? Research from the new field of "positive psychology" ? the scientific study of happy, successful people ? points to at least four proven techniques for successful habit management.1. Replace a bad habit with a good one. Completely eliminating a habit is much harder than replacing it with a more productive habit. Studies of people who compulsively bite their fingernails have shown that it is very difficult for them to completely give up their habit, and much easier for them to substitute biting with the more productive habit of grooming their nails.Similarly, people who talk too much during meetings struggle to become silent, but find it much easier to replace their compulsive talking with highly attentive listening.2. Exercise. A habit of regular exercise is obviously important for lasting weight loss. But you may not realize that exercise helps in accomplishing a variety of goals, and in eliminating a number of bad habits.Frequent exercise helps break habits of overeating, and in kicking all kinds of addictions, particularly if exercise is substituted for an end-of-the-day cocktail or cigarette. Among smokers who become competitive runners, for example, over 80% give up smoking.3. Reward success. The most fundamental law in all of psychology is the "law of effect." It simply states that actions followed by rewards are strengthened and likely to recur. Unfortunately, studies show that people rarely use this technique when trying to change personal habits. Dieters, for example, routinely overlook weeks of exercise and restrained eating, only to let a single lapse "snowball" into a total relapse and complete collapse.Setting up formal or informal rewards for success greatly increases your chances of transforming bad habits into good ones, and is far more effective than punishing yourself for bad habits or setbacks.4. Schedule your bad habits. If you are really struggling to kick a bad habit, try limiting the habit to a specific time and place. If you are struggling to quit cigarettes, allow yourself to smoke from 9-9:30pm, and only in an uncomfortable "smoking stool." When the urge to smoke strikes, tell yourself that you'll have plenty of time to smoke during your pre-scheduled smoking period. Research and case studies confirm that this rather unconventional approach can be a useful first step in changing bad habits.Copyright
