How To Keep Your Resolutions and Reach Your Goals – Goal-Setting
How To Keep Your Resolutions and Reach Your Goals
Another year has flown by and here you are at the beginning of another year. This is a time when many people assess their life and make "new year resolutions" or set goals for the New Year. Sometimes they are the exact same resolutions as last year!! Did you make some of these?I will:* Lose weight, get into shape, and exercise more
* Spend more time with my family
* Stress less & relax more
* Get more sleep
* Save money
* Change jobs
* Be happyIf any of these resolutions sound familiar this is because these are some of the most popular resolutions made each year according to "How To Keep Your New Years Resolution.com"The Oxford Dictionary definition of resolution is to decide firmly or have great determination, but most people are lucky if their resolution is kept until the end of their holidays. It's no wonder many people find themselves making the exact same resolutions the next year. So how can you be successful in sticking to a resolution or successfully achieve any goal?FIRSTLY...work on one thing at a time. Goals or resolutions involve change and sometimes it's easier to give up and sink back into our old life patterns than stick to change. So only do one thing at a time or you may be tempted to give up!SECONDLY...PLAN..PLAN..PLAN..you've heard the saying "People who fail to plan, plan to fail." Think about your goal. WRITE IT DOWN!!!! Put it where you will see it everyday. Set a start date. Develop a strategy. Write a list of points to help you reach your goal-break it down into manageable pieces and tackle it one piece at a time.THIRDLY...Prepare for those obstacles that you know will come up. You know what I mean-if you have decided to lose 10kg you know someone will bring a chocolate cake to work on the first day of your diet. So think about what obstacles will come up and a plan to tackle each one. If you slip up-don't let this make you totally give up. See it as one step back among all the steps you have taken and will take forward!!!!
Remember to reward yourself for every step forward you do take-this will keep you in action and motivated.LASTLY......GET SUPPORT...this is a must. It's much easier to stay in action if you feel supported and also accountable to someone. You could buddy up with a friend or relative (as long as you are definitely sure they will support you). Or for unbiased support chose a Personal Life Coach to keep you motivated and in action.Lisa Branigan specialises in coaching women who are stressed, tired and overwhelmed with their busy lives. Is There An Anxiety Solution For Those Who Fail To Keep Their Resolutions? – Goal-Setting
Is There An Anxiety Solution For Those Who Fail To Keep Their Resolutions?
In a nutshell... YES!I've given a lot of thought recently to the power of 'resolutions' ? to that basic human instinct that continually drives us to improve ourselves and to expand our horizons.Perhaps you're reading this now and resolving to finally conquer your anxiety?The trouble with resolutions, however, is sticking to them! All too often, within weeks, they've fallen by the wayside. Why is that? Why do we all struggle so much to maintain our resolve?To my mind, 'resolve' and 'resolution' are in themselves anxiety-inducing words! What do I mean?? Well, just consider the word RESOLVE. It resounds with a sense of determination? demanding immense effort. It also calls upon you to SOLVE something? to remedy a problem? to seek out that elusive 'Holy Grail' alone.And don't we ALL have some aspect of our life that needs a 'solution'? EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US! It comes with living life to the full! RESOLUTIONS require us to take a long hard look at our lives. They demand we show an honest recognition of the need for change? and often this can be the hardest part of any new resolution.Little wonder, then, that resolutions fill us with trepidation! Suddenly, we have to face up to a PROBLEM or a CHALLENGE. Then we have to decide on a course of action for CHANGE. Then we have to find the SOLUTION. And through it all, we have to maintain our RESOLVE.Pretty daunting! Especially for those of us with personal experience of the debilitating affects of anxiety.So let me try to make it a little bit easier for you!Just be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break and understand that you can't solve everything? and certainly not at once. You have to take that pressure off yourself. Don't take too much on and try to implement lots of changes? this would be scary even to non-anxiety sufferers!Oh, and don't worry about all the 'detail' - the weight loss? the job application process? the dating game? the college course? the house move. Don't be side-tracked by them? And certainly don't beat yourself up if these changes don't happen all at once! Remember, it's early days!I remember when I was anxious and I felt that every aspect of my life was wrong. I just wanted to change everything at once? to be a totally different person living a totally different life. But it felt like I was asking for the impossible, I felt beaten before I'd even begun to make a single change. There was just too much to deal with at once.Well, I found that the simple SOLUTION is to make just ONE RESOLUTION. And when you live with anxiety, there is only ONE RESOLUTION you should be making ? only ONE RESOLUTION which will magic away all the 'detail', which will bring about all the 'changes' you want in your life. And that ONE RESOLUTION is?I AM GOING TO BE ANXIETY FREE TODAY? AND FOR THE REST OF MY LIFEI know what you're thinking?. That's easy for you to say! Well, YES it is! But, what have you got to lose?ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - except your anxiety!The rest of your life is all there for the taking? but as with all resolutions, you have to be prepared to make that choice for change, that RESOLUTION, to face up to and resolve the anxiety.Charles Linden specialises in the treatment of anxiety symptoms. Resolutions? Try this! – Goal-Setting
Resolutions? Try this!
Several articles and newsletters with the message that New Year's resolutions are a worthless exercise and a poorly disguised setup for failure have passed across my desk this last week, and the year before, and the year before that.I do not believe in failure! There is always something good to be found in any learning experience. Besides, if we always succeeded at everything we did, we would not know we succeeded because there would be nothing to measure success against! Certainly, the normal statements along the lines of losing weight, quitting smoking, etc. are normally an invitation to be unsuccessful. The reason being that if you could not find the power before to achieve this, what would be different about now?However, here are some ideas for you to consider that could possibly have a huge impact on your life this coming year.1. Define your Self. Who are you? What do you stand for? What are the values that make you whole? Begin this task immediately and put it in writing. Refer to it often. Refine it continually as you discover things about your Self you did not know. Start with the following premise, which many of us have. You are not your work, your family or anything else external. You are internal. You are you.2. What is your dream for the future? This is your intent. If it remains undefined and unrecognized, it will most likely never be created into reality. The reason for this is that you have to create your own reality. If you do not begin with this first step of intent to create, nothing can happen. Everything that ever is, was first a thought; then spoken, then acted upon. Of course this concept is much easier said than done. May I suggest that you not concern yourself with the HOW and only concern yourself with the intent? The HOW is not really in your power at this time. You need help with that.3. Live your life as if each minute were your last. This has been said so many times that we normally brush the thought aside. Why do we do this? It is a crucial part of happiness and joy. We have a tremendous power within us to change our world. I believe strongly that we create our own world by making each choice that is offered to us every second of the day. That is the ONLY power we have; but it is an incredible power! When we decide to consciously choose to make each and every decision, then we are creating our world on a minute-by-minute basis. Making our choices becomes easier! Simply follow the guidelines as you defined who you are in step 1!4. Let it go. We have no power over the future! You can worry, fret, get ulcers, scream, shout, and go down kicking, but you will not alter the future one bit and more importantly, while you are making that fuss about the future, you might miss making a couple of crucial, conscious choices in the here and now that allow you to create your future!As always,Your online Coach and Friend,Miami Phillips www.creativemasterminds.com
