Those Ellusive Crab and Prawn Traps-Sailing
Those Ellusive Crab and Prawn Traps
If you are a boater, in particular a sea or ocean-going boater, you have probably tried your hand at catching prawns and/or crabs with their respective pots. And if you have tried this, then you know how many traps or pots you have lost over the years! But it is so rewarding when the traps come up with our dinner, that we try it again, over and over every year. This is the story of our weekend boating trip and yet another lost prawn trap. My husband and I have been boating for several years with friends on their Bayliner on the west coast and enjoy our excursions through the San Juan Islands in Washington state and the Gulf Islands in British Columbia. Crabbing and prawn trapping is very popular among both pleasure boaters and commercial fisherman in these areas. Our friend Jan had just had another birthday and her husband Hank decided to buy her something that they could both enjoy. You guessed it, a prawn trap. Out they went at the first opportunity early one morning in July and dropped their prawn trap over the side of their Bayliner. The attached float was clearly visible to other boaters and had their name and boat registration number painted on the side. As the day progressed, they decided it was time to check the prawn trap for booty. Dreaming of the delectable dinner that awaited them, they took off in their dinghy to check the trap. Around and around they went looking for their trap, but it was not to be found. They took their bearings from the land and were sure that they were in the correct spot, but no such luck. Once again, yet another prawn trap had disappeared. Back to their yacht and a dinner of pork and beans. The next morning they weighed anchor and started off for the next day's location, looking as they went for the missing prawn trap. It was

Arrgh. . .Those Stupid Internet Marketing Cliches Are True!
If you have read any internet marketing resource
ever created, you have no doubt seen simple, one
sentence, pot-shot solutions to all of your problems:
You will only be successful if you think you are
successful. You will make money if you work hard.
Think outside of the box. Content is king!. . .If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. How can this possibly help me, you think. These people
are just crack-pots! They do not actually have any real
help to offer me--just general advice, which really
has no practical implications for me and for my business. This is exactly what I thought and this is now what I see
newer marketers and affiliates saying. I was always
skeptical of general advice. I thought success stories that
ended with an exhortation to "work hard" and "make plans"
and "think outside of the box" were just plain worthless. What I now know (what I have learned as I slowly became more
successful) is that this "common wisdom"--which I initially
regarded as foolish and too unspecific--was actually the
best advice available on the internet and it didn't even
cost me money. These simple cliches make up the best possible over-arching
structure of complex business and marketing plans. They
arbitrate the decisions of the most successful internet
marketers. And when marketers decide to be short-sighted
and deny these cliches for quicker returns, they
are smacked-down and brought to reality or ruin by the
manifestation of these cliches. As someone who has received many brutal, unrelenting
smack-downs from the Internet, I can verify this.So what is it about these cliches that give them such
universal, lasting truth?--They ignore hype. They ignore
nuance. They don't marry a fad. And most importantly,
they are results-oriented.They don't give you the specifics. They tell you what to
focus on--broadly--and allow you to find the best way to
nuance, build, and strengthen that simple concept,
which ultimately should to be your choice, anyway. Just
think: if we all tried to occupy the same niches,
optimize for the same keywords, and advertise on the same
sites, then none of us would be making money (and this is
actually why quite a few of us do not make money). If you create an ebusiness according to these simple
cliches, you will not become wildly successful overnight.
You will not find that silver bullet to turn everything
around. You will simply create a solid, practical business
with linear increases that achieves realistic outcomes
and will one day--with enough work--become that
profit-pulling empire you have dreamed of since day one. That's great. But how do I apply these ethereal parcels
of "wisdom" to my real ebusiness?--Through structural
adjustments and long-term planning, the two most
important parts of building a successful, long-term
internet business.Unfortunately, too many new internet marketers--in their
eagerness to see immediate results--refuse to plan
anything. Instead, they rush forward, purchasing products
and services and piles of nonsense that, no matter how good
they are, cannot be useful unless implemented within a
solid business plan. They get frustrated. They give up. They fail.Other internet marketers, weary of trying new plans,
constantly pound away on unprofitable ideas that also
will never achieve long-term results. They purchase
thousands of clicks, impressions, and guaranteed
visitors. They never remake the amount they spent
on advertising. They get frustrated. They give up. They fail. They never sit down and create plans. They never
follow up with those plans and revise them as they
go. They make no structural adjustments to their
businesses to reflect their successes and failures. They react to everything immediately or just stagnate
altogether. But you are different. You will no longer do this.
You know that content really is king. And that if
you want to succeed, you really must work hard. You know that when you make a new product, you
had better be thinking outside of the box or else
you will be smacked-down by those stupid
cliches that make you cringe whenever someone repeats
them.So set goals and try to achieve them. Make your
business results-oriented. Stop hinging your entire
internet business career on a single marketing fad.
Don't count your e-chickens before they hatch!. . .And most importantly of all, always remember:

Are All Those Pet Vaccinations Really Necessary?
Are All Those Pet Vaccinations Really Necessary?
Would you like to save money and have a healthier pet? Let me tell you a
story. One day, my German Shepherd asleep, as usual, when suddenly, he
started convulsing so intensely that I thought he must be dying. It went on for
a few minutes, which seemed like forever. After, I couldn't believe he was OK. It
turned out to be a seizure, and it was then that I began to learn
about alternative medicine for pets. The most interesting thing I found out was that vaccinations seem to be a
main cause of seizures in dogs, and annual vaccinations are not necessary,
possibly causing more harm than good. After that incident, we stopped
vaccinating and the seizures became less and less. I'm going to tell you how
it's in both your and your pet's best interest to avoid yearly vaccinations.
Annual re-vaccination is simply not necessary. Here is an excerpt from page 205 of Current Veterinary Therapy XI, a
reference considered to be the premier resource for the entire veterinary field."A practice that was started many years ago and that lacks scientific
validity or verification is annual revaccinations. ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION
THERE IS NO IMMUNOLOGIC REQUIREMENT FOR ANNUAL REVACCINATION.
Immunity to viruses persists for years or for the life of the animal."If you're concerned about not vaccinating yearly, you can get proof of
immunity even years after the shot, by a blood test called a titer. Many
veterinarians, especially holistic vets, will provide these tests. See http://
www.AlternativesForAnimals.com for a directory of holistic vets.Overvaccination can even cause more harm than good. This is something
that almost all holistic vets agree upon, and some of the top vets in the country
attribute many health problems to vaccines.Dr. Richard Pitcairn, a holistic pioneer and well respected vet who
researched immunology extensively, believes that the biggest factor
contributing to epilepsy in dogs is yearly vaccinations. (1) Many seizures
happen within a few weeks of dogs getting their shots.According to this theory that overvaccination causes harm, vaccines work
with immunity, and overvaccination weakens the immune system. This in turn
causes auto-immune problems in cats and dogs like skin problems, hair loss,
tumors, and arthritis. A weakened immune system leaves your pet open to all
kinds of potential health problems. (2)Why do almost all conventional vets recommend yearly vaccinations? It's
been the industry standard. According to veterinarian Dr. Carolyn Blakey, it
accounts for up to 80% of a vet's business. To recommend less frequent
vaccination, vet businesses would take a big financial blow.If it concerns you to avoid vaccinations, are there any alternatives? There
are a couple options. Some holistic vets follow a modified program of
vaccinations, giving them at less frequent intervals.Another option is homeopathic. Homeopathic nosodes are a remedy
administered to pets that are believed to assist in disease prevention. Nosodes
are made from the actual virus, just like a vaccine, but are made differently and
are totally safe.According to Donna Starita, DVM, a leading homeopathic vet, many
studies show homeopathic nosodes to be just as effective or more so than
conventional vaccines in preventing disease. (3)Some breeders, such as author Celeste Yarnall, Ph.D., that are interested
in more natural methods use exclusively nosodes in place of regular shots.
They swear by it's effectiveness and they say their animals are much healthier
than earlier generations that got shots. (4)So, it's OK to question the necessity of yearly pet vaccinations, with their
questionable necessity and potential adverse effects on your pet's health. This
is the beginning of this movement, and over the coming years, it's my opinion
that we'll probably see more movement away from such frequent vaccination.
Some veterinary schools are already changing their curriculum to advocate
changes in vaccination frequency. In the end, it will save us all money, and
we'll have healthier pets.So next time you get that little reminder card in the mail that your pet is
due for their shots, think twice! And switch your pet's care to a vet that is more
careful about the use of vaccines.See http://www.AlternativesForAnimals.com for a FREE online directory of
