Three Powerful Tips on Selecting a Book Topic that Sells

The topic of your book or eBook counts-big time. Which would you buy-The Art of Kissing or The Art of Courtship? The kissing book sold over 60,500 while the other sold only 17,500 copies. Before you choose your topic pay attention to your audience. What do they want and need? What will they be willing to pay for your information?
Try these three powerful tips:
1. Write a book your audience needs or wants. Think of a particular audience's challenge or problem then solve it with your book. People want how-tos and skills. While sex is still a top seller, people want related topics such as successful Online dating, or how to create a life partner relationship Challenges like making money and saving time still attract book buyers. Business books sell well. People need writing, reading, speaking, computing, communication, math, sales, marketing and Internet skills. Non-fiction how to books sell best. When your nonfiction books sell well, you can finance your novel.
2. Survey your market. Brainstorm with and ask for feedback from friends and associates. Let them vote on the best ten topics, titles and subtitles, even chapter titles. Ask them what words convince them to buy the book? If they are lukewarm about your title, ask them to give you one. While some authors get their title instantly and know it's the right one, many of us need help.
When you use the synergy of more brain power, you receive so many more ideas. Don't be attached to your choices. If the title is the number one thing that sells your book, wouldn't you want the right one? Feedback always helps build a better book.
3. Create a winning vision for your book. Know that your book will be published. Specifically name the outcomes you will see, hear and feel. Place this winning vision in color on a card. Put it near your workstation.
Sample: Place today's date including the year at the top of your card. Then state: "Now that my book (title and subtitle) is finished and is a huge seller." I see---thousands buying it from my book-selling site I hear---applause from multiple audiences affirming it I feel---exhilarated, confident and pleased it's such a hit. Most writers write first, then hope someone will buy their treasure. It's always the other way around. People won't buy unless they feel your $20 or more book is worth their hard-earned money, and they won't buy unless they feel they must have your information Suit your preferred audience and sell many more books.Judy Cullins, 20-year book and Internet Marketing Coach, Author of 10 eBooks including "Write your eBook Fast," and "How to Market your Business on the Internet," she offers free help through her 2 monthly ezines, The Book Coach Says...and Business Tip of the Month at http://www.bookcoaching.com/opt-in.shtml and over 140 free articles.

Top Seven Ways to Select a Book Topic That Sells

Authors need to write their book according to their target audiences' needs and wants. You can sell many more copies when you address these seven ways to select a topic that sells.
1. Write what you are passionate about. Write what will still interest you in the next two years. Your book is an extension of you, your talks, and your profession. If you don't love your topic, you won't be successful. One big mistake authors make is to put attention on writing another book before their first one has been promoted.
2. Write down five topics you are passionate about. Ask your inner author which one should you pay attention to first. After choosing, gather and organize everything you already know and want to know about that topic. If you need, research it. Read other authors' books in your field, check out related web sites, and subscribe to newsletters. You become the expert as you write.
3. Write a book your audience needs or wants. People want how to's and skills. Three special reports on memory and a speed reading manual I wrote have sold over 100,000 in the past 15 years. Business books sell well. People need writing, reading, speaking, computing, communication, math, sales, marketing and Internet skills. Nonfiction how to's sell best. When your nonfiction books sells well, you can finance your novel.
4. Research your target market. Who is your preferred audience? Who will read and buy your book? Who will pay the $10-$25 price tag? How many possible buyers are there? How does your book stack up to your competition? What is your unique selling proposition? What benefits does your book bring its readers?
How many in your audience? According to Dan Poynter, author of Writing Nonfiction, an audience of 200,000 to 700,000 is best. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul sold three million copies more in one year than the original Chicken Soup sold in three years.
5. Compare your book with other reputable, good sellers. What way is your book like theirs? What way is your book unique from others? How? How is your book better? If you think your book is the only one of its kind, it may be, but it will much more difficult to sell. Check out where your book fits by visiting your local bookstore. Ask the bookseller to help you.
6. Survey your market. Brainstorm with and ask for feedback from friends and associates. Let them vote on the best of ten titles and subtitles, chapter titles, back cover information. While some get their title instantly and know it's the right one, many of us need help. When you use the synergy of more brainpower, you receive so many more ideas. Don't be attached to your choices. Feedback helps build a better book.
7. Create a winning vision for your book. Know that your book will be published. Specifically name the outcomes you will see, hear and feel. Place this winning vision in color on a card. Put it near your workstation. (Using today's date including the year) Now that my book (title and subtitle) is finished and is a huge seller:
I see (peoples orders on my Web site)I hear (applause from multiple audiences affirming it)I feel (exhilarated, confident and pleased it's such a hit)
Now that you have a winning topic, your book will flow, be organized, easy to read, and attract your preferred audience.Judy Cullins, 20-year book and Internet Marketing Coach, Author of 10 eBooks including "Write your eBook Fast," and "How to Market your Business on the Internet," she offers free help through her 2 monthly ezines, The Book Coach Says...and Business Tip of the Month at http://www.bookcoaching.com/opt-in.shtml and over 140 free articles.
Since you're going to write your newsletter on a regular basis, it's essential that you choose a topic you're passionate about. Otherwise, it will be too boring and difficult for you to keep writing a valuable, informative article every day, week, or month.I speaking from personal experience. I once started a newsletter about a profitable niche, but I didn't enjoy writing about it. I spent a lot of time and energy choosing a name, designing a professional cover, creating an HTML template, and so on.But after writing a couple of issues, I discovered I couldn't continue doing that for a long time. So I stopped publishing my newsletter. If I knew this secrets earlier, I wouldn't lose that much of my time. But now you know it. I shared this secret with you so that you could save yourself a lot of time by avoiding the mistake I made.Choose a topic you're passionate about, so you will have fun writing each of your issues. And be creative. You don't have to start another newsletter about making money online. Here are the steps you should take for finding a good, creative topic for your newsletter...STEP 1: Pick a pen and a piece of paper and go somewhere that nobody disturbs you. Brainstorm as many ideas as you can think of. Write down everything your mind comes across - even the craziest ideas. Because they will act like a path to more creative ideas.STEP 2: Look at your list and choose the topics you enjoy writing about - no matter whether you think they're profitable or not.STEP 3: Cross out the ideas you think you don't have enough information to write informative articles about on a regular basis.STEP 4: Finally, pick the topic you think will be more profitable. Yes, I know you want to make money from your newsletter, but believe me, it's the last thing you should consider while choosing a topic.Congratulations!
How VALUABLE is Your Speaking Topic? plus articles and information on Public-Speaking

How VALUABLE is Your Speaking Topic?

What information can be used immediately by the audience and what is to follow? Can you tell the audience in 30 seconds or less what you do and also give them three things that they can use immediately? The chances are that you probably cannot. If you do not have a practiced and enthusiastic response to how valuable your topic is, then you are likely not going to win over the audience. Not only do you need to think it is valuable but the audience also has to buy into it. You will need to do some market research even if it is only asking questions to your intended audience. You need to know ahead of time that what you are speaking on is of value to them and that they will be able to walk away from you speech and feel that they got value. So what is the best way to find out how valuable your topic is at this point in time? There are three easy steps that you can take to make sure you are addressing your audience. First you must choose a topic with which you feel comfortable (it may be several). Second, pass the topic titles by friends and local businesses to see if they are interested in the topics and which ones they would put on the top of the list. You should also make sure that they tell you which ones they would be interested in attending. Lastly, put out an email to your circle of influence and have them rate your topics and give suggestions. Once you have completed these steps, you are on the road to presenting something the audience will like.If you do your impromptu research before spending money on advertising the event, you will get a better idea of what the market will bear. If you ignore the market survey and go on your own, you risk having few attendees and wasting your own time and effort. The audience needs to have something tangible for their effort in listening to what you have to say.Bette Daoust, Ph.D. has been networking with others since leaving high school years ago. Realizing that no one really cared about what she did in life unless she had someone to tell and excite. Her friends and colleagues have often dubbed her the "Networking Queen". Blueprint for Networking Success: 150 ways to promote yourself is the first in this series.

Article Marketing: Know your Topic

Everyone knows an expert is just a drip under pressure. I want to share a little story, rather innocent on the part of one person that made a difference in the life of a rather well known preacher.A dear friend of mine spent her years working for the Lord, and this took her places she might never have gone. For most of her children's early adult lives, long enough to put them through college, she spent her years cooking at a small private college, in order to obtain reduced college tuition for her children. She was an excellent cook, personable and talented, loved by all who knew her.It was not unusual that the pastor of the church would join the students for meals, since he was also the Dean of the College. He was usually asked to pray over the meal. This pastor was long winded. He had a tendency to drone on and on, his tone changing slightly, often dropping just below the point where he could be heard by my friend who was nearly tone deaf. However, the constant drip from the faucet in the kitchen could be heard miles away, and she was quite tuned into its incessant communications. On one particularly grueling and hot Kansas day, they sat down to board, and he began to pray. Words of praise thundered forth eventually droning to lower toned requests for blessings, pleasures, and health for his parishioners, until the cook could no longer hear him pray. She thought he was finished. As she looked up from her bowed position to join the rest of the congregation of students, administration, faculty, and guests she saw her associate wasn't sitting beside her and assumed he was still in the kitchen. She called out loudly, amid the silence (knowing the chatter of table talk would soon override her option to do so), "Would somebody please turn that drip off?"Too late, she realized the pastor had still been praying, when he rather loudly proclaimed, "In the name of Jesus, Amen."His sermons after that, as well as his prayers, became more concise and deliberate. He became an EXPERT.The choice is yours. You can continue to drone into tedium, or you can grow and become a better person with more knowledge and focus your interests into a recognizable skill and be known as an "expert".Crisp copy writing packs a punch, with a story that touches your audience, marketing becomes a cinch. Jan Verhoeff has 22 years experience in marketing and packs a punch that will make your website ZING with sales. Visit her site at eBiz Brand Performance.
